A novel visual-magnetic relaxation switch sensor based on an organic framework nanozyme for ultrasensitive norovirus detection.

BACKGROUND: Norovirus (NV), the predominant global cause of non-bacterial acute gastroenteritis, presents severe public health risks due to exceptional environmental stability, low infectious dose (<20 virions), and frequent transmission via contaminated food/water, particularly bivalve mollusks. Conventional detection methods require centralized laboratories, trained personnel, and lack the rapidity, portability, and ultra-sensitivity necessary for on-site surveillance within food supply chains. Consequently, a critical unmet need exists for an integrated detection strategy enabling timely id

Hemocompatibility of cyclodextrin-coated magnetic nanoparticles under uremic conditions.

The accumulation of uremic toxins, a hallmark of kidney failure in hemodialysis-dependent patients, highlights hemodialysis's limits to effectively removing a broad range of toxins. Adsorption-based strategies have emerged as a promising solution. However, a critical gap remains in understanding the hemocompatibility of these materials in the context of kidney failure. In this study we investigated the hemocompatibility and protein adsorption behavior of α-, β-, and γ-cyclodextrin-coated magnetic nanoparticles in modeled uremic plasma and blood. Cyclodextrin-coated nanoparticles exhibited grea

Hypothesizing the Green Synthesis of Tamoxifen Loaded Magnetic Nanoparticles for the Treatment of Breast Cancer.

Breast cancer is the second leading cause of death all over the world and is not only limited to females but also affects males. For estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer, tamoxifen has been considered the gold-line therapy for many decades. However, due to the side effects associated with the use of tamoxifen, its use is only limited to individuals in high-risk groups and limits its clinical application to moderate and/or lower-risk groups. Thus, there is a necessity to decrease the dose of tamoxifen, which can be achieved by targeting the drug to breast cancer cells and limiting its absor

Preparation of a multiple interacting magnetic fluid for rapid and sensitive simultaneous extraction of β-nicotinamide mononucleotide metabolites in biological samples.

BACKGROUND: β-nicotinamide mononucleotide stands out as an essential breakthrough in "anti-aging" and consistently leads the list of top-selling nutritional supplements in terms of quantity. As the metabolites of β-nicotinamide mononucleotide, the detection of nicotinamide and N1-methylnicotinamide is of great significance for evaluating the nutritional effect of dietary supplements of β-nicotinamide mononucleotide. However, due to the extremely low concentration of nicotinamide and N1-methylnicotinamide in vivo and the serious matrix interference in biological samples, there is an increasing

Bacterial Binding to Polydopamine-Coated Magnetic Nanoparticles.

In medical infections such as blood sepsis and in food quality control, fast and accurate bacteria analysis is required. Using magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) for bacterial capture and concentration is very promising for rapid analysis. When MNPs are functionalized with the proper surface chemistry, they have the ability to bind to bacteria and aid in the removal and concentration of bacteria from a sample for further analysis. This study introduces a novel approach for bacterial concentration using polydopamine (pDA), a highly adhesive polymer often purported to create antibacterial and antibio

Efficient magnetic capture of PE microplastic from water by PEG modified Fe3O4 nanoparticles: Performance, kinetics, isotherms and influence factors.

Due to their resistance to degradation, wide distribution, easy diffusion and potential uptake by organisms, microplastics (MPs) pollution has become a major environmental concern. In this study, PEG-modified Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles demonstrated superior adsorption efficiency against polyethylene (PE) microspheres compared to other adsorbents (bare Fe3O4, PEI/Fe3O4 and CA/Fe3O4). The maximum adsorption capacity of PE was found to be 2203 mg/g by adsorption isotherm analysis. PEG/Fe3O4 maintained a high adsorption capacity even at low temperature (5°C, 2163 mg/g), while neutral pH was favo

Hydrophobic magnetic nanoparticle assisted catanionic surfactant supramolecular solvent microextraction of multiresidue antibiotics in water samples.

A novel extraction technique i.e. hydrophobic magnetic nanoparticle (MNP)-assisted in situ supramolecular solvent (SUPRAS) microextraction was proposed, and it was applied for the analysis of sulfonamides (SAs) and fluoroquinolones (FQs) in aqueous samples, coupled with high performance liquid chromatography-UV detection (HPLC-UV). In this extraction method, hexafluoroisopropanol-mediated salt-free catanionic surfactant based SUPRAS in situ microextraction was initially carried out; then, the SUPRAS was quickly adsorbed by the hydrophobic magnetic nanoparticles and gathered by an external magn

Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of new sulfanilamide-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles, and the usability for carbonic anhydrase purification: is there perspective for 'cancer treatment' application?

This investigation indicated an efficient procedure to purify human carbonic anhydrase II (hCA II) enzyme through sulfanilamide-functionalized (γ-Fe2O3-CPTES-SA) magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs), where synthesis of Fe3O4 MNPs was carried out using co-precipitation reaction. Next, 3-chloropropyltriethoxysilane (CPTES) was used to modify Fe3O4 nanoparticles and lastly, the surface of the nanoparticles was functionalized with sulfanilamide (SA) as a carbonic anhydrase ligand/inhibitor for binding to hCA II. The characterization of the synthesized nanoparticles was performed using various techniques.

Rapid, Visual Detection of Klebsiella pneumoniae Using Magnetic Nanoparticles and an Horseradish Peroxidase-Probe Based Immunosensor.

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a common human pathogen that causes several nosocomial chronic infections. Many methods have been reported to detect Klebsiella pneumonia; however, a simple, rapid, and visual method remains to be developed. Here, we developed a rapid, visual detection method employing a nanoparticle immunosensor (NPIS) with a sensitivity of 8 CFU mL-1. Two monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) recognizing different antigenic determinants on the surface of Klebsiella pneumonia were screened by an indirect enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), Western blotting, and mass spectrometry assay.

Alternative synthesis for ZnFe2O4/chitosan magnetic particles to remove diclofenac from water by adsorption.

An easy preparation of magnetic particles with a chitosan external layer and zinc ferrite as core material was proposed. ZnFe2O4/chitosan particles were produced without any calcination step, characterized in detail, and, for the first time, applied for diclofenac (DCF) uptake from aqueous solution. The magnetic properties were checked, and revealed that the adsorbent particles have ability to be separated from the solution by an external magnetic field. Adsorption of DCF onto ZnFe2O4/chitosan particles was a fast process, well represented by pseudo-second order kinetic model, favored at initi

Characterization and reactivity of iron nanoparticles prepared with added Cu, Pd, and Ni.

The association of a secondary metal with iron particles affects redox reactivity in engineered remediation systems. However, the structural characteristics of the metal additives and mechanism responsible for changes in reactivity have not been fully elucidated. Here, we synthesized iron nanoparticles with Cu, Pd, and Ni content ranging from 0-2 mol % via a solution deposition process (SDP), hydrogen reduction process (HRP), or hydrogen reduction of ferrihydrite coprecipitated with the metal cations (HRCO). Results from solid-state characterization show that the synthesis methods produced sim

Nanoparticle retention enables non-invasive detection of metastases by magnetic particle imaging in murine breast cancer models.

Early detection of metastatic disease improves cancer survival, yet existing modalities are limited in their detection capabilities. We propose that magnetic particle imaging (MPI), an emerging technology, can be used for early detection of primary tumors and metastases. MPI detects minute quantities of magnetic particles that act as "cold tracers" which accumulate in areas of high immune activity. Methods: Pegylated Synomag® nanoparticles were intravenously injected into mouse models of breast cancer bearing primary tumors and spontaneously developed lung metastases. After 72 h, mice were sub
