Cellular neurothekeoma is an unusual benign neoplasm which, despite its name, is of uncertain origin. This report describes a cellular neurothekeoma of the cheek mucosa, the first at this site. The tumour presented in a 29-year-old man as a discrete mucosal thickening. Histology showed a generally well circumscribed, but unencapsulated, solid tumour which replaced the entire lamina propria and permeated between minor salivary glands and bundles of striated muscle in the submucosa. Subarachnoid heterotopias were produced experimentally in rats by intracisternal injection of dissociated fetal brain tissue. Heterotopias contained neurons and glial tissue and also mesodermal tissue including striated skeletal muscle. The data show that particles of disintegrated germinal tissue can survive, redistribute, settle and mature within the CSF spaces.

The aim of this study was to define and quantitate the normal anatomy of the extracranial head and neck with 2-[fluorine-18]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET). BACKGROUND: Gut involvement in inflammatory myositis is rare but causes significant morbidity and mortality.
CASE REPORT: A case of eosinophilic gastroenteritis and polymyositis occurring in the same patient is described. The interface of visceral and striated muscle involvement is discussed. The pathophysiology of eosinophilic gastroenteritis and the spectrum of gastrointestinal involvement in inflammatory myositis are also discussed.
RESULTS: Both gastrointestinal and skeletal muscle symptoms improved with immunosuppression, suggesting a possible common underlying mechanism.

The magnesium content of blood, heart and striated muscle, liver, spleen, kidney and bone was determined in rats, 15, 30 and 60 minutes, 6 and 24 hours after isoprenaline induced myocardial damage. The magnesium concentration increased significantly in the serum (but not in the red cells) in the first three groups of animals, while the magnesium concentration of heart muscle fell in all groups. There was no evidence of magnesium flux in the other tissues.

We report the case of a 38-year-old woman who developed a progressive bilateral disease in which the eye motility disorder-diplopia-is the outstanding feature over a period of 12 years. The muscle biopsy of the medial rectus muscle did not show any trace of striated muscle. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first pathological report in an affected extraocular muscle of a patient with Parry-Romberg syndrome (PRS). Previous rare reports of diplopia in PRS have been attributed to enophthalmos, progressive atrophy of the orbit, ocular motor nerve dysfunction, or mechanical restrictions.

The vagus nerve, which is the 10th cranial nerve, exits from the medulla and distributes widely to the visceral organs. Although it contains the motor, somatic, and sympathetic nerves, the main component is the parasympathetic nerve, which acts as the core of homeostasis. The vagal efferent regulates the cardiac muscle, striated muscle and glands, while the vagal afferent sends the information from the visceral organs to the brain. The vagus nerve is also responsible for the gut-brain axis.

84 Turkish patients with lepromatous and borderline lepromatous leprosy were investigated with regard to the presence of antibodies to a variety of tissue constituents and immunoglobulins. Thirty Turkish-born volunteers and two groups of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and primary biliary cirrhosis respectively served as controls. No increased incidence of autoantibodies to smooth muscle cells, nuclei, mitochondria, striated muscle, thyroid microsomes and thyroglobulin was detected. A high incidence of rheumatoid factor and circulating immune complexes was found.
