BACKGROUND: Testicular tumor is one of the common solid tumors in young men. Testicular choriocarcinoma is a non-spermatogonial germ cell tumor, which is the rarest of all testicular cancers. Choriocarcinoma usually shows bleeding at the metastatic site, while gastrointestinal involvement is rare.

We report the case of a patient who had undergone polypropylene plug placement 3 years before and referred to our institution with testicular tumor. CT scan demonstrated an enlargement of pelvic lymph nodes on the tumor side while retroperitoneal nodes were normal. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are excellent modalities for the localization of mediastinal masses and there are often features that may allow the correct diagnosis to be made. However, CT and MRI cannot usually assess the aggressiveness of masses or identify viable tumour in residual masses after chemotherapy. Metabolic imaging using [(18)F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography/CT, although not required in many cases, may be helpful for further characterization of masses and to guide the most appropriate site for biopsy.

Primary intra-cranial germ-cell tumors are a rare and heterogeneous group of neoplasms, identical to germ-cell tumors of gonads and other organs. These tumors arise along the midline, from the supra-sellar cistern to the pineal gland, and have neurological, ophthalmological, and endocrinological expression. The diagnosis is established by detection of increased levels of tumoral markers and/or by histological examination. The treatment includes chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery.

Malignant mixed Müllerian tumor (MMMT) of the fallopian tube is an extremely rare neoplasm with a poor prognosis. To date, only 37 cases have been reported. The primary treatment for this tumor is surgery. Chemotherapy has been used with some success. The role of radiotherapy is less clear. Two cases of hormonally active, metastasizing malignant mixed germ cell-sex cord-stromal tumors are described in otherwise normal prepubertal girls. Isosexual precocity was noted 5 months and 1 month before surgery. One child died 1 year after presentation, and the other was alive, with no apparent tumor, 1 year after diagnosis. These two cases represent the first recorded instance of a unique tumor in which metastases of several cell types were encountered.

A 69-year-old man had a melanotic primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the medulla displaying various neuroepithelial elements including undifferentiated neuroepithelial cells forming Homer Wright's rosettes as well as neoplastic neuroglia resembling those seen in medulloblastoma. Among primary tumors of the liver, the group classified as malignant hepatic mixed tumor or hepatoblastoma in adult is among the least common. In this report, two rare cases of nonhepatocytic malignant mixed tumor primary in the liver are reported. Diagnosis was established after autopsy in one and surgery in the other, who is still alive 2 years and 8 months after removal of the tumor by hepatic resection and may be the longest survivor among the nonhepatocytic malignant mixed tumor primary in the liver.

Germ cell tumors (GCTs) are now considered a curable cancer, with a > 95% cure rate in all patients and about 90% cure rate in patients with metastatic disease. The success of physicians in curing the disease is underpinned by multidisciplinary advances. PURPOSE: Germ cell neoplasia in situ (GCNis), the precursor of adult testicular germ cell tumours (GCTs), is found in 5-6% of contralateral testicles in patients with testicular GCT and in the tumour-surrounding tissue of > 90% of testes undergoing testis-sparing surgery (TSS) for GCT.
