Therapy-related myeloid neoplasms resembling juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia: a case series and review of the literature.

Therapy-related myeloid neoplasms (t-MN) are a distinct subgroup of myeloid malignancies with a poor prognosis that include cases of therapy-related myelodysplastic syndrome (t-MDS), therapy-related myeloproliferative neoplasms (t-MPN) and therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML). Here, we report a series of patients with clinical features consistent with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML), an overlap syndrome of MDS and myeloproliferative neoplasms that developed after treatment for another malignancy.

Characterization of Second Primary Malignancies in Mucosa-Associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphomas: A SEER Database Interrogation.

INTRODUCTION: Second primary malignancies (SPMs) are long-term complications in cancer survivors. Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphomas are indolent extra-nodal marginal zone lymphomas, the majority of which typically have long-term survival. In this study, we investigated the incidence and pattern of SPMs in adult patients diagnosed with MALT lymphomas between January 2000 and December 2016. METHODS: Using the SEER-18 database and multiple primary standardized incidence ratio (MP-SIR) session of SEER stat software for statistical analysis, we assessed SPMs in MALT lymphomas. RE

Malignancies after Chimeric Antigen Receptor T Cell Therapy.

CAR-T cell therapy is a transformative treatment for relapsed and/or refractory (R/R) B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), and multiple myeloma (MM). Recent data brought serious concerns for the development of second primary malignancies (SPM), whether second myeloid neoplasms (SMN) or second non-hematologic malignancies (SNHM), or T cell cancers. Pertaining SPMs after CAR-T cell therapy, studies report an incidence ranging from 2.3% to 11.3%, with a higher trend in patients 65 years of age or older, those with higher

Incidence of second primary malignancies in patients with multiple myeloma receiving anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Anti-CD38 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are commonly used for treating newly diagnosed and relapsed/refractory (r/r) multiple myeloma (MM). However, concerns have been raised about the occurrence of second primary malignancies (SPMs) in patients receiving anti-CD38 mAbs. Assessing the safety data for rare adverse events like SPMs is challenging because individual clinical trials are typically focused on the primary endpoint. Therefore, we conducted a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) published between January 2005 and April 2022, including patients with newly diagnosed or r/r

Practical guidelines for the management of adverse events of the T cell engager bispecific tebentafusp.

Tebentafusp is a new T cell receptor bispecific fusion protein and the first approved treatment option for human leucocyte antigen-A*02:01 (HLA-A*02:01) metastatic uveal melanoma, with a proven benefit in overall survival versus the investigator's choice. As a first-in-class therapeutic option, this Immune mobilising monoclonal T cell receptor Against Cancer (ImmTAC) is associated with a new adverse event (AE) profile. Based on clinical experience, a national expert group discussed recommendations for tebentafusp treatment, focusing on AE management. Further topics included prerequisites for i

Pure germinoma occurring 11 years after total pineal mature teratoma removal: a case report and review of the literature.

Intracranial mature teratomas have good prognoses and are usually treated by total tumor resection. We report a rare case of a germinoma that occurred 11 years after total removal of a pineal mature teratoma. A 5-year-old boy presented with headache and nausea and was diagnosed with a pineal tumor and obstructive hydrocephalus on MRI. He underwent total removal of the lesion, which was pathologically diagnosed as a mature teratoma without any other germ cell tumor components. MR images after 11 years showed a newly developed pineal tumor, which was confirmed as a germinoma after neuroendoscopi

Lung cancer. Special treatment issues.

This chapter of the Lung Cancer Guidelines addresses patients with particular forms of non-small cell lung cancer that require special considerations. This includes patients with Pancoast tumors, T4N0,1M0 tumors, satellite nodules in the same lobe, synchronous and metachronous multiple primary lung cancers (MPLC), and solitary metastases. For patients with a Pancoast tumor, a multimodality approach, involving chemoradiotherapy and surgical resection, appears optimal provided appropriate staging has been carried out. Patients with central T4 tumors that do not have mediastinal node involvement

Analysis of clinicopathological features and prognosis of double primary cervical cancer and ovarian cancer based on SEER database.

OBJECTIVE: Double primary cervical cancer and ovarian cancer refer to the simultaneous or successive appearance of cervical cancer and ovarian cancer in the same patient. Due to the low incidence, there are few relevant reports. Therefore, this study is the first population-based analysis of the clinicopathological features as well as the prognostic status of double primary cervical cancer and ovarian cancer. We look forward to providing a reference for future clinical diagnosis and treatment. METHODS: In this study, 473 cases of double primary cervical cancer and ovarian cancer were collecte

Local recurrence and metastatic disease in pheochromocytomas and sympathetic paragangliomas.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the rate of recurrence among patients with pheochromocytomas and sympathetic paragangliomas (PGLs; together PPGLs) and to identify predictors of recurrence (local recurrence and/or metastatic disease). METHODS: This retrospective multicenter study included information of 303 patients with PPGLs in follow-up in 19 Spanish tertiary hospitals. Recurrent disease was defined by the development of local recurrence and/or metastatic disease after initial complete surgical resection. RESULTS: A total of 303 patients with PPGLs that underwent 311 resections were included (288 phe

Intramedullary Spinal Cord Metastasis from Primary Lung Neuroendocrine Carcinoma: A Case Report and Operative Video.

BACKGROUND: Intramedullary spinal cord metastasis (ISCM) account for a minority of all spinal cord tumors. Rarely, symptoms from ISCM may be the initial presentation of an unknown primary carcinoma. Intramedullary metastasis from a second malignancy or from an unknown neuroendocrine malignancy is extremely rare and has never been reported in the literature. Because of the rarity of these tumors and the low volume of cases, well-defined treatment guidelines do not exist for the management of ISCM. Here we present a rare and one of the first reports of an intramedullary metastatic neuroendocrine

Intraosseous hibernoma: a potential mimic of metastatic carcinoma.

Intraosseous hibernoma is a rare benign bone tumor, with only 3 cases reported in English literature. In this report, we describe a 50-year-old woman with a history of stage IIB breast cancer and posterolateral right hip pain. Imaging studies showed a sclerotic lesion in the right ilium, which was biopsied and showed mildly thickened bone trabeculae and multivacuolated brown fat cells replacing the normal white fat and hematopoietic elements, diagnostic of intraosseous hibernoma.

Occurrence of sequential intraocular tumors: malignant medulloepithelioma subsequent to retinoblastoma.

A 13-year-old boy, whose bilateral retinoblastoma had been treated by enucleation (OD) and irradiation (OS), developed anterior staphyloma (OS) necessitating the second enucleation. Histopathological, immunohistochemical and electron microscopic studies revealed malignant teratoid medulloepithelioma of the ciliary body, with demonstrated multipotential histogenesis. This is the first report which demonstrates the development of a second malignant intraocular tumor in an eye previously affected by hereditary retinoblastoma. Careful monitoring of patients who have had hereditary retinoblastoma i

[A Case of Secondary Rectal Cancer after Brachytherapy for Prostate Cancer].

We report a 72-year-old man who developed secondary rectal cancer 17 years after receiving brachytherapy for prostate cancer. The patient had undergone gastrectomy for gastric cancer 4 years earlier. Elevated tumor markers during follow-up prompted further investigation, revealing a rectal tumor invading the prostate. Robot-assisted total pelvic exenteration was performed after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Histopathological examination confirmed advanced rectal adenocarcinoma invading the bladde(r ypT4bN3M0, ypStage Ⅲc). Although secondary malignancies following prostate radiotherapy are rare, ou

Liver resection for metastatic uveal melanoma: experience from a supra-regional centre and review of literature.

Management of liver metastases from uveal melanoma (LMUM) requires multimodal approach. This study describes evolution of liver resection for LMUM, reviewing current literature and institutional outcomes. Records of patients referred to the Melanoma Multi-Disciplinary Team between February 2005 and August 2018 were reviewed. All publications describing surgery for LMUM were identified from PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar. Thirty-one of 147 patients with LMUM underwent laparoscopic liver biopsy, and 29 (14 females) had liver resections. Nineteen liver resections were performed locally [7 maj
