OBJECTIVE: Oral mucositis (OM) is a frequent and clinically significant complication of chemotherapy in paediatric oncology, often resulting in substantial pain and functional impairment. Despite its prevalence, discrepancies in pain assessment across informants may contribute to suboptimal symptom management. This study examined differences in OM-related pain ratings among children, parents, and nurses, and evaluated agreement between two validated pain assessment instruments.
METHODS: A cross-sectional design was employed with 45 children receiving chemotherapy in a paediatric hemato-oncolo

Simulation has become an essential strategy for advancing nursing practice, clinical competence, patient safety and healthcare system performance. As care environments become increasingly complex, nurses must be prepared to respond to high-acuity situations, integrate emerging technologies, communicate effectively within interprofessional teams and contribute to quality improvement and systems transformation. This editorial introduces a special issue focused on simulation as a strategic driver of contemporary nursing practice. The manuscripts in this issue highlight the expanding role of simul

BACKGROUND: Global population ageing is increasing pressure on healthcare systems, contributing to workforce shortages and the loss of experienced practitioners as many approach retirement age. Retaining older nurses is essential because they provide critical clinical expertise, mentorship, workforce stability, and continuity of patient care in increasingly strained healthcare systems. Yet, little is known about how older nurses perceive organisational support for their continuation of practice.
OBJECTIVE: To explore older registered nurses' perceptions of organisational support, and to under

BACKGROUND: Globally, Public Health Nurses (PHNs) play a central role in disease prevention and health promotion. In Sri Lanka, the PHN service, discontinued in the 1980s, was reintroduced in 2018. However, a standardised framework for defining, implementing, and documenting their roles and services is still lacking, despite record-keeping being vital for evaluating service delivery. This study aimed to describe the duties performed by Sri Lankan PHNs.
METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among the PHNs working in 08 provinces in Sri Lanka during October 2024. Data colle

Medical aid in dying (MAiD) has become an increasingly visible component of end-of-life care in the United States as legal access expands across multiple jurisdictions. As MAiD becomes more integrated into serious illness care, nurses, particularly those in hospice and palliative care, are increasingly the first clinicians to receive patient questions about this option. These inquiries are often embedded in broader concerns related to suffering, loss of autonomy, fear of prolonged dying, and desire for control rather than solely requests for hastened death. The Hospice and Palliative Nurses As

Palliative care needs are increasing rapidly in China, yet the preparedness of nurses working in secondary hospitals has been less well characterized than that of staff in tertiary institutions. This cross-sectional study evaluated palliative care knowledge, attitudes, and practices among nurses in a district-level secondary hospital in Shanghai and examined factors associated with performance in this setting. In February 2024, 520 nurses were invited to complete a structured questionnaire covering demographic characteristics and three palliative care domains: knowledge, attitudes, and practic

With the increasing pace of globalization and transnational migration, healthcare systems are becoming more culturally diverse. In Taiwan, demographic changes have introduced increasing numbers of patients from diverse cultural backgrounds into clinical care environments, presenting new challenges for nursing practice. Cultural safety has emerged as an important framework for promoting equitable healthcare and improving the quality of patient care. Under this concept, patients' lived experiences and perceptions of care are used as central indicators of healthcare quality, and healthcare profes

The past 2 decades have witnessed several studies and reviews reporting on the development, implementation, and evaluation of nurse-based models of cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention, which are contributing to the growing evidence base of their effectiveness. Teams comprising healthcare professionals with expertise in nursing, dietetics, physical activity, and behavior skills have shown high levels of success in preventive efforts, particularly in high-risk and vulnerable populations. Used appropriately, collaborative, team-based, nurse-led models have the potential to effect positive cha

Within nursing, clinical judgment is widely recognized as an essential professional competency underpinning clinical care, educational formation, and research development. Recent scholarship has renewed attention to clinical judgment. However, its conceptual structure remains undertheorized with respect to its normative and evaluative dimensions. This article argues that phronesis, understood as the Aristotelian concept of practical wisdom, is constitutive of nursing clinical judgment. Drawing on philosophical and nursing virtue ethics perspectives, it examines Patricia Benner's account of exp

BACKGROUND: Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) were introduced in France in 2019 to address chronic disease burden, healthcare access inequalities, and medical workforce shortages. By the end of 2024, 751 APNs had graduated in France, with Stabilized Chronic Diseases (PCS) representing the predominant specialty (54-57%). APNs specialized in Stabilized Chronic Diseases are expected to collaborate with vascular physicians, although their role continues to evolve following recent authorization of direct patient access and independent prescribing rights. This study aimed to assess the implementation
