Cross-ribbon conformation defines peptide recognition in SCREW/CTNIP-NUT/HSL3 signalling.

Plants balance gas exchange with pathogen defense through dynamic stomatal regulation. Stomata close temporarily during pathogen attack to limit invasion, then reopen to restore photosynthesis and transpiration while lowering apoplast water saturation to inhibit pathogen proliferation. The secreted peptides, SCREW/CTNIP promote stomatal reopening through the receptor NUT/HSL3 and co-receptor BAK1/SERK3, thereby counteracting ABA and MAMP-triggered stomatal closure. Here we present the cryo-EM structures of AtNUTECD and the AtNUTECD-SCREW2/CTNIP4-AtBAK1ECD complex, uncovering a distinctive pept

Toripalimab-based chemoimmunotherapy for unresectable sinonasal NUT carcinoma of the maxillary sinus: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Nuclear protein in testis (NUT) carcinoma is an extremely rare and highly aggressive epithelial malignancy driven by NUTM1 rearrangements. Sinonasal involvement is uncommon and often presents with non-specific clinical and radiologic features, leading to delayed diagnosis. Optimal management remains undefined, and outcomes are poor when complete resection is not feasible. CASE PRESENTATION: A 31-year-old man developed progressive numbness and swelling of the left cheek after tooth extraction. Imaging revealed a soft-tissue mass involving the left maxillary sinus with adjacent maxi

Updated Insights into Probiotic Nut-Based Dairy Alternatives: Microbiological, Antioxidant, and Sensory Aspects.

Plant-based "milks" have gained increasing attention as functional beverages due to their nutritional properties, consumer acceptance, and potential for probiotic fermentation. Lactose intolerance, milk allergies, and growing interest in sustainable plant-based diets have contributed to the rapid expansion of nut-based beverage (NBBs) markets. This review summarizes recent advances in processing and nutritional characteristics of NBBs as dairy alternatives. Although rich in bioactive compounds, including antioxidants, minerals, unsaturated fatty acids, and vitamins, NBBs generally exhibit lowe

Rapid Progression of Primary Pulmonary NUT Midline Carcinoma: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Primary pulmonary nuclear protein in testis (NUT) midline carcinoma (NMC) is a rare malignancy with characteristics that resemble those of squamous cell carcinoma, thus making it prone to both misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis. Primary pulmonary NMC is highly malignant and associated with poor prognosis, with no standardised effective treatments for patients who cannot undergo surgery. Concurrent or sequential chemoradiotherapy is considered an effective approach, and some targeted drugs have been clinically tested and demonstrated favourable results. We present a case of primary pulmonary NMC

From Sensitization to Tolerance: A Retrospective Study of Tree Nut and Peanut Allergy in Pediatric Patients.

INTRODUCTION: Tree nut/peanut (TN/PN) allergies are among the most common pediatric food allergies, often persisting into later life and posing significant clinical risks. The likelihood of tolerance acquisition varies, and predictive factors remain inadequately defined in clinical practice. This study was conducted to evaluate clinical and laboratory features associated with anaphylaxis risk and tolerance development in pediatric patients with TN/PN allergy, while also examining the potential influence of aeroallergen sensitization, coexisting atopic diseases, and skin test reactivity on thes

Long-term survival after multimodal treatment of sinonasal NUT carcinoma: a case report.

Sinonasal NUT carcinoma is a highly aggressive malignancy with poor prognosis. This case demonstrates that combined surgical resection, high-dose radiotherapy, and chemotherapy can lead to long-term remission, with the patient remaining disease-free after five years. Early diagnosis and a multidisciplinary approach are crucial. Continued research into targeted therapies like BET inhibitors holds promise for improving outcomes in this rare, challenging tumor.

Areca nut extract may be a potentially driving force for tumors to become autophagy addicted.

We have previously described the mechanisms of action and composition of the autophagy-inducing ingredients found in areca nut (AN). These ingredients are 30-100 kDa molecules present in AN extract (ANE), referred to as ANE 30-100K. In other studies, we demonstrated that chronic stimulation with sub-lethal doses of ANE or ANE 30-100K resulted in increased tolerance to environmental challenges, including serum deprivation, hypoxic conditions, anti-cancer drugs, and accelerated tumor growth in nude mice, through upregulated autophagy activity. Such tumor cells were highly sensitive to the chemic

TLE1 Expression in NUT Carcinoma: A Case Report Highlighting a Potential Diagnostic Pitfall for the Pathologist.

NUT carcinoma is a rare, aggressive malignancy defined as a carcinoma with a chromosomal rearrangement affecting the nuclear protein in testis (NUTM1) gene. This small round blue cell tumor classically exhibits focal abrupt keratinization and immunohistochemical positivity for keratin and squamous markers. However, keratinization is not always present and reports of positivity for other markers that may obscure the diagnosis are increasing. It is also noteworthy that gene fusions involving NUTM1 are not restricted to NUT carcinoma. Herein, we report a NUT carcinoma arising in the mediastinum o

Novel BRD2::NUTM1 Fusion in NUT Carcinoma With Exceptional Response to Chemotherapy: A Case Report.

We present the first known case of a patient with BRD2::NUTM1-driven NUT carcinoma. A 59-year-old woman presented with poorly differentiated squamous cell lung cancer metastatic to the pleura. Eventually, a positive NUT immunohistochemistry, NUT fluorescence in situ hybridization, and RNA next-generation sequencing with a BRD2::NUTM1 fusion led to the diagnosis of NUT carcinoma. She received multiple lines of chemotherapy with response and is still alive at 2 years postdiagnosis. This report expands on the known fusions in NUT carcinoma and highlights potential differences in patient prognosis

NUT Expression Is of Diagnostic Utility in the Distinction of Digital Papillary Carcinoma From Poroid Hidradenoma.

The distinction between digital papillary adenocarcinoma (DPAC) and benign cutaneous adnexal tumors is clinically important and can be challenging. Poroid hidradenoma frequently occurs at acral sites and can show a number of histological features, which overlap with digital papillary adenocarcinoma. Recent work has shown that YAP1-NUTM1 fusions are frequent in poroid hidradenoma and are associated with nuclear protein in testis (NUT) expression by immunohistochemistry. We evaluated the expression of NUT-1 by immunohistochemistry in 4 cases of DPAC and 4 cases of poroid hidradenoma. Three of 4

Epithelial atrophy in oral submucous fibrosis is mediated by copper (II) and arecoline of areca nut.

Exposure of oral cavity to areca nut is associated with several pathological conditions including oral submucous fibrosis (OSF). Histopathologically OSF is characterized by epithelial atrophy, chronic inflammation, juxtaepithelial hyalinization, leading to fibrosis of submucosal tissue and affects 0.5% of the population in the Indian subcontinent. As the molecular mechanisms leading to atrophied epithelium and fibrosis are poorly understood, we studied areca nut actions on human keratinocyte and gingival fibroblast cells. Areca nut water extract (ANW) was cytotoxic to epithelial cells and had
