A case report of renal pelvis carcinoma.

Urothelial carcinoma (UC) is a common type of carcinoma worldwide, and it is rare to find it metastasize to the brain. Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) are an emerging treatment for patients. Our department treated a patient with Urothelial carcinoma (UC) that metastazied to the brain with Disitamab Vedotin. Therefore, the aim of this article is to review and share this rare carcinoma case treated in our department, and to have a deep understanding of Antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) so that we can improve treatment for Urothelial carcinoma (UC). Informed consent was granted by the patient to sh

Jackstones in the renal pelvis: A rare calculus.

Jackstones are a rare subtype of calculi, characterised by radiating spicules. We describe a case of multiple jackstones in the urinary upper tract. A 53-year-old man was referred for evaluation of left flank pain. Imaging revealed a left pelvic-ureteric junction obstruction and several left renal calculi. A left supine percutaneous nephrolithotomy was performed and two jackstone calculi were extracted. The presence of multiple jackstones in the renal pelvis should prompt for evaluation for obstruction and complete stone clearance should be achieved to avoid recurrence.

[Fractures of the pelvis causing vaginal wound].

Pelvic fractures occur most often in people experiencing a traumatic event. Although they are due to high-velocity injuries, these lesions are rarely associated with vaginal wounds, and data on patients' evolution are scarce. The purpose of our study was to describe anatomoclinic lesions, treatment and progression of these lesions. The study involved five female patients who had had vaginal wounds due to pelvic fracture over the past decade. The patients had a mean age of 23,6 years. Vaginal wounds were mainly due to road accidents. Two patients had linear wounds and three had lacerated wounds

Surgical challenges of Castleman's disease of the pelvis.

Castleman's disease (CD) is a unique lymphoproliferative disorder. It commonly occurs in the mediastinum, neck, axilla, and abdomen, and retroperitoneal involvement is rare. Here we report a unique case of CD in the pelvis. Laparotomy was performed and surgery was complicated by adhesions and vascularity. Total surgical duration was Five hours and 45 min with 4.5 L of blood loss. Ten pints of blood was transfused. The mass was histopathologically diagnosed as hyaline-vascular CD. The patient was free of recurrence after 10 years of follow-up.

Periosteal chondroma of pelvis - an unusual location.

Periosteal chondroma is a slow growing benign tumor with prevalence rate of less than 2% of all chondromas. This tumor is mostly observed in clavicle, ribs and humerus and only one previous case has been reported in pelvis. Here we present an unusual case of periosteal chondroma due to uncommon presentation, location and age range. Our case is a 39 year-old male diagnosed with periosteal chondroma in pelvis. He had unspecific signs and symptoms overlapping with low back pain and disk herniation. By the time of admission he had gluteal muscle atrophy and also claudication. Differentiation of pe…

Fatty masses of the abdomen and pelvis and their complications.

There are numerous common and rare macroscopic fat-containing masses found in the abdomen and pelvis. These include benign masses, such as lipoleiomyoma, ovarian teratoma, mesenteric teratoma, and lipoma, as well as malignant masses, including liposarcoma and malignant transformation of benign entities. Any mass may become symptomatic due to the development of a complication which may range from ovarian torsion to intussusception to hemorrhage. Imaging plays a vital role in diagnosis and treatment planning when confronted with a symptomatic fat-containing mass.

Primary Lymphoma of the Pelvis: A Case Report.

INTRODUCTION: Unilateral pedicle screw fixation and transforaminal cage for interbody fusion are well-established form of treatment for lumbar spondylolisthesis. It is cost effective and has shown to have a comparable outcome to bilateral pedicle screw fixation. We present a case of unilateral pedicle screw fixation and transforaminal cage for interbody fusion in a patient of Grade 1 Degenerative spondylolisthesis who had an early implant failure, and try to assess the possible events leading to it. CASE REPORT: A 53-year-old female presented to our outpatient department with low back pain th

Wooden Foreign Body in the Renal Pelvis.

Migration of foreign bodies into the renal collecting system is very rare and usually concerns iatrogenically implanted objects. Migration of a foreign body from the gastrointestinal tract to the kidneys is even more rare. We present a case of migration of a wooden toothpick from the duodenum into the pelvis of the right kidney. The patient was not aware that he swallowed a toothpick; the foreign body resulted in hematuria and flank pain. The toothpick was missed during the initial computed tomography urography. Correct diagnosis was revealed by follow-up computed tomography. The toothpick was…

The Radiograph of the Pelvis as a Window to Skeletal Dysplasias.

Skeletal dysplasias are disorders of bone formation. There are many dysplasias that have been identified and studied over the years and long lists of radiological features have been documented; it is not possible to remember all of them, most of which are common to more than one dysplasia. This article is about a practical approach to the radiological diagnosis of skeletal dysplasias by viewing only a few radiographs rather than the entire skeletal survey. The radiographs that are to be studied are AP view of the pelvis, dorsolumbar spine- AP and lateral view and both hands PA view, in that or…

Percutaneous osteosynthesis in the pelvis in cancer patients.

PURPOSE: Screw fixation (osteosynthesis) can be performed percutaneously by interventional radiologists. We report our experience in cancer patients. MATERIAL/METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed all cases of percutaneous osteosynthesis (PO) of the pelvic ring and proximal femur performed in our hospital. PO were performed for fracture palliation or for osteolytic metastases consolidation. Screws were inserted under CT- or cone-beam CT- guidance and general anaesthesia. Patients were followed-up with pelvic-CT and medical consultation at 1 month, then every 3 months. For fractures, the goal w

[An urinary catheter slipped into the renal pelvis].

An elderly woman was referred to hospital because of fever and deterioration of her general condition. Due to urinary retention, the woman had undergone long term catheterization and had a urinary infection for years. In addition, the partial right hip prosthesis was found to be dislocated. While changing the catheter it slipped into the renal pelvis, and the balloon of the catheter was filled at the level of the ureteropelvic junction. The condition, observed in computed tomography scanning, was quickly restored, and the patient managed to avoid complications. Drifting of an urethral catheter…

Mucinous urothelial carcinoma of the renal pelvis.

Urothelial carcinoma with abundant myxoid stroma is a newly-described and extremely rare entity. Since only very few cases have been reported, there is no consensus on its nomenclature. Microscopic examination revealed invasive urothelial carcinoma with widespread low-grade noninvasive areas. There were focal invasive areas in the neighborhood of the renal parenchyma. Malignant urothelial tumor/cell groups localized in the stroma had abundant myxoid/mucinous background in the invasive areas. The cytoplasm of the tumoral cells was more eosinophilic in these areas and the cells formed small grou

Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor of the pelvis.

UNLABELLED: The primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) belongs to a group of highly malignant tumors and is composed of small round cells of a neuroectodermal origin. Categorized in the same tumor family as Ewing sarcoma, the PNET is most likely to occur in bones and soft tissues. However, a small number of PNET cases arising in the pelvis have been reported as well. WE PRESENT THREE CASES OF PELVIC PNET: two cases in the ovary and one case in the broad ligament. The PNET often exhibits aggressive clinical behavior with worse outcomes than other small round cell tumors. The significant progno…

Seven-Tesla MRI of the female pelvis.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of 7-T contrast-enhanced MR imaging of the female pelvis. METHODS: Ten healthy female volunteers were examined on a 7-T whole-body MR system utilising a custom-built eight-channel transmit/receive radiofrequency body coil. The examination protocol included (1) T1-weighted fat-saturated 2D spoiled gradient echo (FLASH), (2) dynamic T1-weighted fat-saturated 3D FLASH, and (3) T2-weighted TSE sequences. For qualitative image analysis pelvic anatomy, uterine zonal anatomy and image impairment due to artefacts was assessed using …

The unusual nested carcinoma of the renal pelvis.

Invasive urothelial carcinoma has a potential to show divergent differentiation. Several uncommon morphological variants have been described in the recent past. One such rare type is the nested variant of urothelial carcinoma. Most of the published reports depict occurrence of this variant in the urinary bladder. We report an unusual presentation of this uncommon entity in the renal pelvis of a 54-year-old lady who presented with widespread skeletal metastases without any urinary symptoms.

Botulinum toxin for conditions of the female pelvis.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Botulinum toxin has recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of urinary incontinence associated with neurogenic detrusor overactivity. However, it has also been used off-label for a multitude of other conditions in the female pelvis, including urological, gynecological, and colorectal. This article reviews the most recent data regarding its efficacy and safety, and administration techniques for those conditions. METHODS: A literature review of the most relevant reports published between 1985 and 2012. RESULTS: Urinary inc…

Squamous cell carcinoma of the renal pelvis.

Primary squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the renal pelvis is rare because SCC represents only 0.5% to 0.8% of malignant renal tumors. Chronic irritation, inflammation, and infection induce squamous metaplasia of the renal collecting system, which may progress to dysplasia and carcinoma in most of affected individuals. Nephrolithiasis, especially formation of staghorn calculi, is the most common risk factor for SCC, which usually occurs in older adults (age 50-70 years) with no sex predilection. Clinical features include flank or abdominal mass, weight loss, hematuria, or paraneoplastic syndrom…
