The use of preoperative lidocaine to prevent stridor and laryngospasm after tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy.

The most important complications from tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy are bleeding, stridor, and laryngospasm. This controlled, double-blind study was designed to investigate the effects of topical and intravenous lidocaine on stridor and laryngospasm. A total of 134 patients scheduled for elective tonsillectomy and/or adenoidectomy were randomly separated into four groups. In the topical lidocaine group 4 mg/kg of 2% lidocaine was applied to subglottic, glottic, and supraglottic areas before endotracheal intubation. Normal saline solution was used topically for the first control group. In the

A scientometric overview of CORD-19.

As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolds, researchers from all disciplines are coming together and contributing their expertise. CORD-19, a dataset of COVID-19 and coronavirus publications, has been made available alongside calls to help mine the information it contains and to create tools to search it more effectively. We analyse the delineation of the publications included in CORD-19 from a scientometric perspective. Based on a comparison to the Web of Science database, we find that CORD-19 provides an almost complete coverage of research on COVID-19 and coronaviruses. CORD-19 contains not only rese

Impact of topical cetylated fatty acid cream on hand osteoarthritis: a randomized, double-blind clinical trial.

In addition to topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs that are used in hand osteoarthritis, there are other drugs that can reduce pain in osteoarthritis, such as topical cetylated fatty acids. Previous studies have reported that topical CFAs are effective in all knee OA patients, with slightly higher evidence for those with advanced disease. The mechanism of pain in OA knee and OA hand is similar. Furthermore, there are no previous studies on CFAs in OA hand. Patients fulfilling the American College of Rheumatology criteria for hand OA participated in this randomized, double-blind, plac

Evaluation of Data Sharing After Implementation of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors Data Sharing Statement Requirement.

IMPORTANCE: The benefits of responsible sharing of individual-participant data (IPD) from clinical studies are well recognized, but stakeholders often disagree on how to align those benefits with privacy risks, costs, and incentives for clinical trialists and sponsors. The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) required a data sharing statement (DSS) from submissions reporting clinical trials effective July 1, 2018. The required DSSs provide a window into current data sharing rates, practices, and norms among trialists and sponsors. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the implementatio
