We investigated on how to effectively administer orally factor VIII preparation to two patients with von Willebrand's disease as volunteers, and the following results were obtained: Bleeding time and aPTT were shortened, but no change of PT was observed. Factor VIII:C increased slightly, but no significant increase was observed in factor VIIIC:Ag. The recovery of factor VIII:C was 19-40%. Treatment of septic shock with naloxone was evaluated in a prospective, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in which ten episodes of shock were treated with naloxone (0.4 to 1.2 mg intravenously) and 13 with the vehicle for injection. Using a standardized open photopatch test technique, the phototoxic reactions produced by bergamot oil bergapten (5-methoxypsoralen) the active component of the oil, and xanthotoxin (8-methoxypsoralen) were studied. Taxol is a unique plant-derived antineoplastic agent that appears to exert its cytotoxic effect by interfering with microtubule structure and function. In this phase I trial, in which the drug was given as a brief iv infusion every 3 weeks, the dose-limiting toxicity was leukopenia, with thrombocytopenia being seen much less frequently. In a 70 year-old woman with a chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura refractory to all the therapeutic used, the absence of antiplatelet antibodies and the action of patient mononuclear cells on normal platelet 14C serotonin release was observed.
