Although the choice to study medicine implies some knowledge of the current working situation of practitioners, medical students' expectations regarding their future professional practice have been rarely investigated in Argentina. BACKGROUND: Road traffic injuries constitute one of the main causes of death and disability in Italy and in the European Union. Although much scientific evidence exists on the important role of complete loss of consciousness in the dynamics of motor vehicle accidents, at present there is no specific legislation in Italy. Occupational medicine should take particular care in this field, because every year a large number of accidents with fatal outcomes occur among truck drivers. Via health surveillance, the occupational physician can play an important role in the prevention of such events.

AIM: The aim of the study was to explore the relationship between impersonal trust, governmentality and professional activity through an analysis of professional discourse.
BACKGROUND: This study emerged from an earlier paper that described a four-dimensional model based on Luhmann's definition of trust as "reducing complexity and managing expectations". Linking trust with the Foucauldian notion of governmentality develops this further. Governmentality raises the question of how professional authority is constituted through the practice of nurses and other health and welfare professionals.

Primary care clinicians who provide comprehensive reproductive heath care can now offer patients mifepristone (Mifeprex) as an abortifacient option. Clinicians, however, must first determine if the state in which they practice has regulations specifying who can perform abortions and dispense drugs, and they must consider clinical office zoning ordinances, staffing, public relations issues, and reimbursement. We studied 148 professional baseball players with no history of shoulder problems to assess range of motion and laxity of their dominant and nondominant shoulders. There were 72 pitchers and 76 position players.
