INTRODUCTION: The most common reason for removal of well-fixed radial head prostheses is painful loosening. We hypothesised that short-stemmed prostheses, used for radial head arthroplasty, are not associated with an increased risk of implant loosening.
METHODS: From 2002 to 2014, 65 patients were enrolled in a retrospective single-centre study. The radial head prostheses were classified as having either a long (30-mm) or short (16- to 22-mm) stem. The long-stemmed implants comprised 30 GUEPAR® DePuy Synthes (West Chester, PA, USA) and 20 Evolutive® Aston Medical (Saint-Etienne, France) devic

Silicone breast implants have been associated with connective-tissue inflammatory syndromes such as systemic sclerosis, and as with other artificial breast prostheses, fibrous capsules tend to form around the implants. The capsular tissue is generally considered inert and typically is left in situ when the prostheses are explanted. We report a patient who formed symptomatic bilateral submammary cysts associated with pain, swelling, arthralgia, fever, axillary lymphadenopathy, accelerated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and antinuclear antibody following removal of intact silicone breast implan

PURPOSE: Immediate full-arch occlusal loading for patients with atrophic edentulous maxillae satisfies critical needs for this specific type of edentulous patient after placement of implants with high levels of primary implant stability. The needs include improved aesthetics, limited immediate improved function, and elimination of removable prostheses. Classification systems exist for edentulous maxillae but they do not include specifics regarding posterior implant placement. In conjunction with anterior implants, posterior implants improve Anterior/Posterior (A/P) spreads, decrease cantilever

Placing an implant immediately into extraction sockets provides a distinct advantage over delayed placement, eliminating the need for a 4 to 6 months waiting period for bone formation. However, when patients present with hypothyroidism, the feasibility of immediate placement of dental implants becomes uncertain. This case involved a hypothyroid woman in her late 60s with loose lower anterior teeth. We performed atraumatic extractions. Immediately after extraction, we implanted tilted implants into her lower posterior arch, which is an area with limited vertical bone height. In the anterior arc

BACKGROUND: A defective ossicular chain can reliably be reconstructed with standardized techniques using e. g. modern alloplastic materials. The comparison of clinical and functional results have proved its worth. Prospective clinical trial as well as collecting and evaluating relevant intraoperative and postoperative findings may be helpful to find the appropriate bone substitute in each case when rebuilding middle ear structures.
METHOD: In 354 middle ears (332 patients) the defective or destroyed ossicular chain was rebuilt with the carefully trimmed autogenous incus (n = 83), with ionomer

Severe alveolar ridge atrophy following tooth removal poses a common and worsening issue in edentulous jaws, affecting patient comfort and quality of life. The All-on-4 approach involves axially positioning two anterior implants and distally orienting two posterior implants, reducing cantilever length and enabling prostheses with 12 teeth. This less invasive option, utilizing distal tilting of implants at 30°, offers biomechanical advantages and has shown short-term success, though long-term research is limited. Immediate-loading treatments are gaining popularity for their high survival rates.

BACKGROUND: In the context of dental prostheses, splinting multiple implants together may improve their stability. The approach may be especially favorable when performing immediate loading procedures, increasing the implant osseointegration rate, and reducing the risk of implant and prosthetic failure. The instantaneous loading technique (ILT) involves creating a metal framework to splint the implants by intraorally welding them pair-by-pair, using purposefully created abutments.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to investigate the prosthetic success when using ILT to rehabilitate partial

Metaplastic synovial cyst (synovial metaplasia of the skin) refers to a cyst lined by a membrane resembling hyperplastic synovial villi. Synovial-like metaplasia has been described around prostheses and breast implant capsules and may occur in postsurgical cutaneous scars, unrelated to prostheses or implants. We describe a metaplastic synovial cyst occurring in the left breast of a 23-year-old man 2 years after surgical treatment of gynecomastia. The expanding clinicopathologic scenario of metaplastic synovial cyst, in scar tissue in male breast unrelated to mammary implants, and as a potentia

BACKGROUND: Dental rehabilitation is considered challenging to achieve whenever composite scapulo-dorsal free flaps are used to reconstruct medium-to-large maxillary defects due to the fact that bone quality and quantity may be low, which may preclude placement of conventional dental implants. In such cases, current options for dental rehabilitation include printed patient-specific subperiosteal implants or zygomatic implants.
METHODS: The authors report three cases of maxillary tumour resections that led to medium-to-large defects reconstructed using composite scapulo-dorsal free flaps. Seco

PURPOSE: The success of zygomatic implants following the two-stage, as well as the immediate loading, concept has been well documented. This graftless approach for the treatment of the completely edentulous resorbed maxilla allows for rehabilitation with an implant-supported fixed prosthesis. The purpose of this prospective study is to report on the 7-year follow-up of patients treated with zygomatic implants in conjunction with two to four anterior maxillary implants placed into immediate function and restored with a definitive fixed prosthesis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This prospective study
