The Chinese government has actively promoted artificial intelligence (AI) in health care, with momentum building in 2016 through the Healthy China 2030 Initiative. This reform plan aims to modernize health care infrastructure, reduce the burden of chronic diseases, and expand access to medical services in rural areas using digital technologies such as AI. Health expenditure (HE) and digital financial inclusion (DFI) play a crucial role in improving health outcomes. HE improves access to medical services and the quality of care, while DFI allows individuals to afford health care, save for emerg

BACKGROUND: A rapid and equitable response is paramount to mitigating the spread and impact of an infectious disease public health emergency. Unfortunately, public health responses often integrate equity as a secondary component rather than a foundational one-a decision that can result in disproportionate effects of the epidemic on vulnerable populations and that may further fuel or worsen the ongoing health emergency. This paper introduces a framework grounded in health equity principles to guide the design and implementation of response efforts during infectious disease emergencies.

BACKGROUND: During the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitals in South Korea operated various types of negative pressure isolation units (NPIUs), ranging from makeshift conversions to purpose-built wards. While vaccination and personal protective equipment were essential in reducing occupational exposure, the impact of physical infrastructure on the safety of health care workers remains underexplored. This study examined whether nurses' infection risk varied by the level of isolation ward infrastructure.
METHODS: Infection data were collected from a public hospital between February 2022 and June 2023.

In many settings, the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic coincides with other major public health threats, in particular tuberculosis. Using tuberculosis (TB) molecular diagnostic infrastructure, which has substantially expanded worldwide in recent years, for COVID-19 case-finding might be warranted. We analyze the potential of using TB diagnostic and research infrastructures for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) testing. We focused on quality control by adapting the 12 Quality System Essentials framework to the COVID-19 and TB context. We conclude that

INTRODUCTION: Traditional food markets (TFMs) support food security and livelihoods in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), but the trade of live animals and products of animal origin may facilitate zoonotic and foodborne disease transmission. Evidence on associated risks and control measures remains fragmented across pathogens, market types and interventions. This scoping review maps the literature on zoonotic and foodborne public health risks, risk factors and control measures related to the trade of live animals and animal products in TFMs in LMICs.

Cholera continues to severely threaten public health, particularly in regions with inadequate access to clean water and sanitation. Zimbabwe, a southern African nation, has witnessed recurrent cholera outbreaks, highlighting the enduring vulnerabilities faced by communities grappling with these underlying challenges. The 2023 cholera outbreak in Chegutu resulted in a devastating impact, with approximately 100 reported deaths and nearly 5000 confirmed and suspected cases. Beyond its immediate health consequences, the outbreak has strained the already fragile healthcare system, exacerbated issue

The promise of big data in public health has fueled expectations for leveraging electronic health records (EHRs) to advance epidemiological research, particularly in occupational health. Yet, hospitals-where patients' occupational histories are routinely collected-often do not transform this information into usable epidemiological data. This article examines the organisational and infrastructural barriers that hinder the use of hospital data for studying occupational cancers, focusing on blood cancers in France. Drawing on interviews, questionnaires, and ethnographic observations with onco-hae

The 2023 Marburg virus disease (MVD) outbreak in Tanzania, which resulted in nine confirmed cases and six deaths (case fatality rate [CFR]: 66.7%), served as a critical stress test of the national health system, revealing significant gaps in outbreak preparedness across surveillance, laboratory capacity, and infection prevention and control (IPC). This narrative review examines how Tanzania's public health response evolved between the 2023 and subsequent 2025 outbreak and assesses how response strategies changed between the two outbreaks. The 2025 outbreak was limited to two confirmed cases wi

BACKGROUND: As an essential component of public health infrastructure, public health education plays an important role in advancing health equity. In China, the large migrant population, while contributing substantially to socioeconomic development, continues to face significant health risks and inequalities due to frequent rural-to-urban mobility and occupational transitions. These issues not only undermine the well-being of migrants but also impede balanced social and economic progress. In this context, the present study systematically investigated the impact of public health education on he…

Two years into Sudan's prolonged war, the collapse of health systems has fueled multiple concurrent epidemics, triggering a complex humanitarian emergency with regional spillover risks. Over 30 million people need aid, more than 11 million displaced internally, and cross-border movement has exacerbated the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases, including Cholera, Measles, and circulating vaccine-derived Poliovirus type 2 (cVDPV2). This review analyzes emerging epidemiological patterns and operational barriers to epidemic control in the context of armed conflict, displacement, and infrastructu
