Frankincense resin exhibits antibacterial potential against various microorganisms, but little is available on its effectiveness against dental root canal biofilm. This study aimed to assess its efficacy as a root canal irrigant against Enterococcus faecalis biofilm. A standard E. faecalis strain underwent antibacterial sensitivity testing with frankincense derived from Boswellia sacra Flück and Boswellia frereana Birdw trees. Frankincense, demonstrating inhibition of bacterial growth, was further evaluated as an irrigant. Root canals of 50 single-canalled human teeth were prepared, then conta

BACKGROUND: In the oral cavity, root canal treatment failure (endodontics) is often due to the persistence of microorganisms in the root canal system after treatment, or re-infection of the root due to insufficient flooding. In addition, microorganisms are essential for the development of peri radicular diseases and are one of the main factors related to root canal treatment failure. Microorganisms that are commonly isolated from teeth that have failed endodontic treatment include Enterococcus (E.) faecalis and Candida (C.) albicans. Bacterial infection is closely related to the failure of roo

Numerous procedures and materials have been utilized to induce root-end barrier formation. Mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) was introduced to dentistry as a root-end filling material. It has been advocated for filling root canals, repairing perforations, pulp capping, and root-end induction. Mineral trioxide aggregate reacts with tissue fluids to form a hard tissue apical barrier. As a result, MTA shows promise as a valuable material for use in one-visit apexification treatment, primarily for treating immature teeth with necrotic pulps.

In essence, endodontics as a clinical discipline is concerned with the prevention and treatment of pulpal and periapical infection. In recent research the infective process has been investigated as well as the mechanisms by which the pulp and periodontium deal with microbial insults. With regard to the pulp, findings on the hemodynamics of pulpitis suggest that the inflammatory response in this tissue is much less influenced by the special anatomic environment of the tooth than was previously believed. Pulpal diseases are being underdiagnosed, mostly because of inadequate examination methods.

Root perforations are accidental events that may occur during the treatment, causing tissue inflammation and alveolar bone loss of integrity of the periodontium. In such cases, the radiological evidence is fundamental in the formulation of the diagnosis, in the choice of therapy (surgical or non-surgical) and finally for the assessment of prognosis of the dental element. In non-surgical treatment of endodontic lesions, the material used for the repair of the defect root should have biocompatibility, antibacterial activity, ability to induce healing of periodontal tissues and radiopacity. The aim of this case report was to present a treatment strategy for severely injured teeth in children and adolescents by using periodontal surgery and adhesive techniques. A 16-year-old boy presented after a severe bicycle accident. A radiograph revealed a root fracture with connective tissue healing and displacement. Clinically, a crown-root fracture as well as an uncomplicated crown fracture of the same fragment was obvious. The root canal was prepared and filled with gutta-percha to the fracture line. A full periodontal flap was performed, and the crown-root fragment was adhesively fixed.

The failures in endodontic treatments are often related to anatomical variations. Some anatomical changes in anterior teeth occur in patients with cleft lip and palate. This paper aims to report the endodontic retreatment of a maxillary central incisor with two roots and two canals on a patient who presents cleft lip and palate. A male patient, 11-year-old, reported pain when chewing related to the left maxillary central incisor tooth (tooth 21) which featured a sinus tract after primary endodontic treatment. In periapical radiograph, it was observed an alteration on the anatomy of the root on

PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to determine whether placement of a resorbable collagen barrier at the apical one third of the root canal could prevent extrusion of pulpectomy filling material.
METHODS: Twenty-five extracted primary mandibular second molars, with at least two thirds of root length remaining, were used. The apical third of each root was covered with utility wax, and teeth were embedded in acrylic. Carious tooth structure was removed, crowns were reduced to a flat surface, and canals were accessed and preflared. Working lengths were established by reducing file

The introduction of nickel-titanium rotary instruments revolutionized shaping procedures as they were able to produce a well-tapered preparation while reducing operator fatigue. The major drawback of rotary instruments was the high risk of fracture due to bending and torsional stress. Thus, the creation of a glide path has been advocated and recommended by most rotary instrument manufacturers. The aim of the present review is to summarize existing knowledge on glide path preparation and identify areas where further research is needed. The primary goal is to provide a comprehensive overview of
