Suspected contained rupture of a coronary artery aneurysm followed by a re-rupture: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Most coronary artery aneurysms (CAAs) are clinically asymptomatic and are only detected incidentally during cardiac imaging. However, CAAs can cause fatal complications such as cardiac tamponade following a rupture. Reports of contained ruptures of CAAs are limited. CASE SUMMARY: An 89-year-old man had a severe, acute-onset chest pain 2 days prior. The patient was referred to our hospital because of residual dyspnoea and a fever. The blood tests exhibited high C-reactive protein and D-dimer levels; moreover, contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) and transthoracic echocardiogr…

Intraprocedural rupture management for intracranial aneurysm rupture during coil embolization by manual common carotid artery compression.

We report cases of intraprocedural rupture (IPR) management of a ruptured intracranial aneurysm during coil embolization by manual common carotid artery (CCA) compression. Manual CCA compression and aneurysm obliteration were performed simultaneously at the point of rupture. Early IPR detection followed by simultaneous endovascular coiling and manual CCA compression may lead to a benign clinical course in most cases.

Blunt traumatic rupture of the right ventricle, with intrapericardial rupture of the diaphragm: successful surgical repair.

The authors report a case of chest injury causing rupture of the right ventricle and diaphragm, discovered during laparotomy for haemoperitoneum. This type of injury to the heart has rarely been cited in the literature since survival rates are low and the diagnosis often overlooked.

Ruptured ectopic molar pregnancy and ruptured uterine fibroid: a challenging rare diagnosis.

Although rare and unusual occurrences, a ruptured ectopic molar pregnancy (MP) and a ruptured uterine fibroid can lead to significant maternal morbidity and mortality. We present a unique case of these complications developing concurrently-resulting in the haemodynamic compromise of an otherwise healthy young female patient. The patient underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy which converted into a laparotomy, salpingectomy and myomectomy. Comprehensive histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of a ruptured ectopic complete MP and ruptured uterine fibroid. The patient recovered quickly within days. P…

General considerations of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm: ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.

Although development of surgical technique and critical care, ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm still carries a high mortality. In order to obtain good results, various efforts have been attempted. This paper reviews initial management of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm and discuss the key point open surgical repair and endovascular aneurysm repair.

Achilles tendon ruptures, re rupture with revision surgery, tendinosis, and insertional disease.

Achilles tendon pathology is one of the more common conditions encountered by the foot and ankle surgeon. While it most frequently affects the athletic population, it can also lead to significant morbidity in the older and sedentary patient. The etiology of Achilles tendon dysfunction is multifactorial and has been found to be associated with overuse injury, training error, malalignment of the lower extremity, inflammatory disorders, and intrinsic disease or degeneration. Achilles tendon disorders have been classified temporally as acute and chronic, with the later subdivided into insertional

Intrabiliary rupture of a hydatid cyst of the liver with concomitant intraperitoneal rupture into the lesser sac.

A case is reported of a young man of Moroccan origin, admitted with fever, aerobilia and an epigastric mass. Laparotomy revealed a suppurated hydatid cyst extending from the left lobe of the liver, which had ruptured into the left hepatic duct and intraperitoneally, into the lesser sac. A left hepatic lobectomy was performed. Gas producing micro-organisms were cultured from the cyst contents whereas no viable scolices were demonstrated. Medical therapy with mebendazole was instituted postoperatively. Six months later, the patient underwent subtotal pancreaticoduodenectomy because of an obstruc…

Morphologic and hemodynamic risk factors in ruptured aneurysms imaged before and after rupture.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Due to limited information about aneurysm natural history, choosing the appropriate management strategy for an unruptured aneurysm is challenging. By comparing unruptured and ruptured cases, studies have identified a variety of aneurysm morphologic and hemodynamic properties as risk factors for rupture. In this study, we investigated changes in 4 ruptured aneurysms before and after rupture and tested whether previously published risk factors identified a risk before rupture. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective review of ruptured aneurysms based on the inclusion crit…

Rupture of the rotator cuff of the shoulder associated with rupture of the tendon of the long head of the biceps.

Twenty cases of associated rupture of the rotator cuff and the tendon of the long head of the biceps were studied. This was out of a series of 54 patients referred to our unit with symptoms referable to the rotator cuff or to recent tendon rupture. In the majority of these patients there was marked loss of shoulder function due to rupture of the cuff. In 13 of 15 patients treated surgically the cuff lesion was either substantial or severe. The tendon lesion was partial in 3 cases and total in 12. In addition to repairing the cuff, the tendon was fixed in the bicipital groove in 7 of the 15 pat…
