Biochemical characterization of the Tityus gamma toxin receptor associated with the voltage-sensitive Na+ channel was carried out in different tissue preparations with the use of an iodinated toxin derivative. We have previously shown that ischemic preconditioning (IPC) protection against necrosis in whole hearts and in both fresh and cultured card … dly rectifying K(+) channels with adenoviruses, suggesting that Cl(-) and K(+) movements across the sarcolemma are critical for cell volume regulation and, thereby, cell survival under hypoxic/ischemic conditions. An autopsy case of mitochondrial encephalomyopathy with lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes (MELAS) is reported. A case of late motor neuron degeneration following poliomyelitis with abnormal mitochondria in muscle fibers is presented with two additional cases of systemic neurogenic muscular atrophy (Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease).
