Parents' Active Role and ENgagement in The review of their Stillbirth/perinatal death 2 (PARENTS 2) study: a mixed-methods study of implementation.

OBJECTIVE: When a formal review of care takes places after the death of a baby, parents are largely unaware it takes place and are often not meaningfully involved in the review process. Parent engagement in the process is likely to be essential for a successful review and to improve patient safety. This study aimed to evaluate an intervention process of parental engagement in perinatal mortality review (PNMR) and to identify barriers and facilitators to its implementation. DESIGN: Mixed-methods study of parents' engagement in PNMR. SETTING: Single tertiary maternity unit in the UK. PARTICIP

Parents' preference as to whether they would like to accompany their child when receiving dental treatment--results from a national survey.

BACKGROUND AND DESIGN: parental accompaniment of children during dental treatment has always been a contentious issue. One of the factors that should be considered is the preference of the parents. The aim of this paper is to report the preference of parents of eight-year-old schoolchildren in Ireland in relation to accompanying their child during dental procedures and is part of the National Survey of Children's Dental Health in Ireland, which was conducted between October 2001 and June 2002. The survey had a cross sectional design and parents of children (average age 8.4 years) selected for

Computational fluid dynamics analysis for predicting microaneurysm formation in parent arteries of unruptured cerebral aneurysms: implications for neck clipping safety.

BACKGROUND: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage caused by cerebral aneurysm rupture has a poor prognosis, with mortality exceeding 30% despite treatment advancements. Surgical neck clipping remains the standard for preventing rupture, but intraoperative rupture rates vary significantly (3-50%) and are influenced by vascular complexity and technical challenges. Thinning of the vascular wall near the aneurysm neck, particularly with microaneurysm formation, has emerged as a significant risk factor, yet these changes often go undetected in preoperative imaging. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to eval

Cloning and further sequence analysis of the ORF3 gene of wild- and attenuated-type porcine epidemic diarrhea viruses.

The open reading frame (ORF3) genes of the parent DR13, attenuated DR13, KPED-9, P-5V, and 12 field samples were cloned and sequenced to further explore the functions of wild- and attenuated-type porcine epidemic diarrhea viruses (PEDVs). Sequencing revealed that wild-type PEDVs ORF3 genes had a single ORF of 675 nucleotides encoding a protein of 224 amino acids with a predicted M (r) of 25.1-25.3 kDa. Attenuated-type PEDVs ORF3 genes had a single ORF of 624 nucleotides encoding a protein of 207 amino acids with a predicted M (r) of 23.4 kDa. The coding region of the ORF3 gene of attenuated-ty

Edutainment as a Strategy for Parental Discussion With Israeli Children: The Potential of a Children's Play in Preventing Sexual Abuse.

Edutainment is a communication strategy to influence attitudes and behaviors through the use of the media. Through the children's play "Yael Learns to Take Care of Her Body," designed for joint viewing by children aged 5-8 and their parents, sexual abuse is raised. This qualitative study findings indicate that parents from low socioeconomic subgroups from the secular sector reported that their awareness had been raised by viewing the play and that they received tools for holding a conversation. Conversely, parents from high socioeconomic subgroups in the secular sector and parents from the nat

Culturally adapted DBT parent coaching for Chinese families of adolescents with mental disorders: a mixed-methods feasibility study.

BACKGROUND: Parents of adolescents with mental disorders frequently experience elevated levels of psychological distress, often in settings where structured support for caregivers is limited. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) offers a skills-based framework that may strengthen caregivers' emotion regulation and improve family functioning, yet culturally adapted parent-focused programmes remain underexamined in China. This study evaluated the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of a culturally adapted DBT parent coaching programme for Chinese parents of adolescents with mental disorders

Performance of three large language models in answering parent-focused questions on rickets: a dual pediatric-orthopedic specialist evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Parents increasingly rely on large language models (LLMs) to obtain pediatric health information; however, the accuracy, clinical appropriateness, and readability of AI-generated responses remain variable. This concern is particularly relevant for rickets, a preventable metabolic bone disease in which delayed recognition or inappropriate guidance may result in adverse outcomes. This study aimed to compare the content quality, clinical appropriateness, and readability of responses generated by contemporary LLMs to parent-oriented questions about rickets using structured, multidiscip

Psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the school refusal assessment scale-revised in a clinical sample of adolescents and their caregivers with depressive disorders.

School refusal behavior (SRB) is a prevalent and functionally heterogeneous problem among children and adolescents that can lead to serious academic, social, and psychological consequences. The School Refusal Assessment Scale-Revised (SRAS-R) is the most widely used instrument for identifying the functional motivations underlying school refusal, yet its psychometric properties have not been examined in Chinese clinical populations. The present study aimed to translate and culturally adapt the SRAS-R into Chinese and to evaluate its psychometric properties in a clinical sample of adolescents wi

Introduction to the special section: Mind and matter: New insights on the role of parental cognitive and neurobiological functioning in process models of parenting.

This is an introduction to the special section on neurobiological and neurocognitive factors in parenting. The collection of 11 papers are published in 2 serial subsections of consecutive issues of the journal. The science they present captures the leading edge of work examining the interface of cognitive, emotional, behavioral, and physiological self-regulation in parenting and how these operate to protect or increment risk for poorer parenting among families who face chronic stressors (e.g., poverty, single parenthood, homelessness, mood disorders). Samples span the poor to the affluent, man…

Effects of a mindfulness-based intervention (MYmind) for children with ADHD and their parents: protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Mindfulness is one of the potential alternative interventions for children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Some evidence suggests that mindfulness is related to changes in brain regions associated with ADHD. The potential benefits of mindfulness on children with ADHD, as well as the feasibility of this intervention approach, are warranted through prior local and foreign studies. This study aims to evaluate the effect of mindfulness-based group intervention for children with ADHD and their respective parents through a robust research design. METHODS AND ANAL

Child maltreatment and teenage first births: a relationship mediated by chronic sociodemographic stress?

Data were obtained from low-income, single-parent mothers for a test of the "life course" hypothesis that chronic stress mediates the relationship between teenage motherhood and both physical abuse and neglect of children. Large numbers of live births, a life history of unemployment, and low educational achievement were the measured stressors. Findings support the hypothesis, showing the number of live births as the most important mediator for both types of maltreatment.
