INTRODUCTION: Maxillary sinus floor elevation is a surgical procedure intended to increase the volume of the bone vertically to accommodate dental implant placement. This intervention is frequently required for implant installation in the posterior maxilla, where the bone may be insufficient for securing implants of necessary length and stability. Sinus floor elevation can be completed either through a direct approach with a "window" through the lateral wall of the alveolar ridge or an indirect "transcrestal/transalveolar" sinus floor elevation (TSFE), which accesses the sinus floor through th

The objective of this study is to systematically evaluate the effects of a tissue-engineered bone complex for maxillary sinus augmentation in a canine model. Twelve sinus floor augmentation surgeries in 6 animals were performed bilaterally and randomly repaired with the following 3 groups of grafts: group A consisted of tissue-engineered osteoblasts/beta-TCP complex (n=4); group B consisted of beta-TCP alone (n=4); group C consisted of autogenous bone obtained from iliac crest as a positive control (n=4). All dogs had uneventful healings following the surgery. Sequential polychrome fluorescent…

This clinical study used cone beam computerized tomography (CBCT) to locate the position of the anastomosis canal in lateral wall of maxilla … sinus floor was similar in different teeth sites. The sinus floor could be an anatomic landmark of sinus floor augmentation. In order not to interrupt this canal, great care must be taken by the implant surgeon to identify this canal.

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the rupture length of the sinus membrane after applying a defined 1.2 mm defect comparing 3 different techniques: Summers lift, balloon-assisted technique (BASL), and hydrodynamic ultrasonic cavitational sinus lift (HUCSL).
STUDY DESIGN: Thirty fresh sheep heads (60 maxillary sinuses) were investigated. The sinus membrane was ruptured using a 1.2 mm pilot drill. Then Summers lift, BASL, and HUCSL were each performed on 20 sinuses, creating a 5 mm vertical lift of the sinus membrane. The length of the ruptured sinus membrane was measured before and after the experiment.

Maxillary sinus wall fenestration at the lateral wall or floor of the sinus can result from many potential factors, such as the repair of oro-antral communication, Caldwell-Luc antrostomy, tooth extraction after an endodontic or periodontal infection that eroded the sinus wall, and the combination of sinus pneumatization and alveolar ridge resorption after teeth removal. When sinus wall fenestration is observed on radiographs, it usually indicates adhesion between the sinus membrane and buccal flap, which makes the reentry surgery for subsequent sinus augmentation challenging. To minimize surg

PURPOSE: To determine whether a less invasive window repositioning technique could provide a feasible, safe, and reliable lateral sinus augmentation.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The less-invasive window repositioning technique using a piezoelectric saw was performed on adult patient candidates for lateral sinus floor elevation. The augmented bone height (primary outcome variable), bone length, and posthealing outcome variables were evaluated to determine the augmentation adequacy, safety, and reliability of this technique overall and in one- and two-implant groups with different window dimensions.

Sinus floor augmentation (SFA) is one of the techniques that has been proposed for improving the long-term retention of dental implants. The procedure involves the creation of a submucoperiosteal pocket in the floor of the maxillary sinus for placement of a graft consisting of autogenous, allogenic, or alloplastic material. Complications of the SFA predominantly consist of disturbed wound healing, hematoma, sequestration of bone, and transient maxillary sinusitis. In this report, we presented an acute maxillary sinusitis complication following internal sinus lifting in a patient with chronic m…

The dimension of alveolar ridge is decreased by bone atrophy and pneumatization of the maxillary sinus after loss of teeth in the posterior maxilla, and sinus augmentation procedures are performed to create bone quantity and quality to ensure the placement of dental implants.Various osteoconductive materials have been used to augment the sinus floor, but these materials are cell-free and require more time for bone healing. Attempts have been made to apply a cell-based approach that uses mesenchymal stem cells combined with an osteoconductive scaffold. Adult stem cells that can be derived from

The edentulous posterior maxilla is considered a clinical challenge during dental implant treatment for many dental practitioners. This is because its insufficient bone quality, deficient alveolar ridge, spiny ridges, undercuts, and sinus pneumatization are often encountered after tooth loss. To overcome these problems, several approaches have been developed and are currently used, including sinus augmentation and bone augmentation. Today, two main procedures of sinus floor elevation for dental implant placement are in use: a two-stage technique using the lateral window approach, and a one-sta
