INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Mid-urethral sling (MUS) surgery for stress urinary incontinence (SUI) has relatively low complication rates. However, although rare, complications such as bladder wall, prepubic and thigh abscess occur. We present an unusual case of MUS vaginal mesh exposure followed by mons pubis abscess formation occurring 18 years postoperatively because of inadvertent prepubic insertion of the right arm. Our objectives were to raise awareness about such a rare complication and to describe the approach for sling removal.
METHODS: A 75-year-old woman presented with gradual swel

RATIONALE: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) refers to the involuntary leakage of urine when abdominal pressure increases. Midurethral slings (MUS) have become the main surgical method for treating SUI, but no quantitative standard for the degree of sling tightness during operation exists. We achieved this quantitative measurement using ambulatory urodynamic equipment.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 49-year-old woman presented to our hospital with intermittent urine leakage. Five pads were used daily to keep the vulva dry. The preoperative urethral pressure profilometry (UPP) showed that maximum urethra

INTRODUCTION: Synthetic mid-urethral slings are currently the most common performed surgical procedure for the treatment of female stress urinary incontinence. The transobturator mid-urethral sling technique has been widely accepted owing to its high success and low complication rates. Although complications are rarely seen, it may cause significant morbidity.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of vaginocutaneous fistula following transobturator mid-urethral sling procedure and a successful reconstruction with transvaginal sling excision and fistula closure.
CONCLUSION: Vaginocutaneous fist

BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to investigate the course of the transobturator posterior anal sling and its relationship to anatomical structures.
METHODS: The transobturator anal sling procedure was performed in four fresh-frozen pelvises. The pelvises were dissected and the structures adjacent to the sling and the course of the sling were identified and measurements obtained.
RESULTS: The transobturator posterior anal sling was inserted 2 ± 0.5 cm posteriorly to the anus, and 2.5 ± 0.5 cm caudal to the coccyx under the levator plate at the level of the puborectalis muscle. The tape

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: To avoid injury to the perineal branches of the pudendal nerve during urinary incontinence sling procedures, a thorough knowledge of the course of these nerve branches is essential. The dorsal nerve of the clitoris (DNC) may be at risk when performing the retropubic (tension-free vaginal tape) procedure as well as the inside-out and outside-in transobturator tape procedures. The purpose of this study was to identify the anatomical relationships of the DNC to the tapes placed during the procedures mentioned and to determine the influence of body variations.

INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: Urethral perforations after synthetic midurethral sling (MUS) placement are uncommon. Transvaginal removal is an option. The objective of this English and Spanish video is to demonstrate removal of an MUS that had perforated the urethra and the concomitant urethral reconstruction.
METHODS: A 66-year-old woman with a history of an anterior and posterior colporrhaphy and a retropubic MUS 12 years earlier presented with difficulty voiding, recurrent urinary tract infections, and mild stress incontinence (SUI). Physical examination revealed tenderness on the anterior

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to estimate the effect of intrinsic sphincter deficiency (ISD) on frequency and urge incontinence after midurethral sling (MUS) in women with mixed urinary incontinence (MUI).
METHODS: We performed a retrospective study of 137 women with MUI who underwent MUS placement. We defined MUI as an affirmative response to the urge incontinence item (no. 16) on the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory in a cohort of women with urodynamic stress incontinence. Intrinsic sphincter deficiency was defined as preoperative positive leak point pressure of less than 60 cm

BACKGROUND: Retropubic midurethral slings are the mainstay of treatment for female stress urinary incontinence. Complications of this approach may have long-term implications.
CASE: A 55-year-old woman underwent tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) placement. Five years later back pain and gross hematuria prompted cystoscopy and diagnosis of bladder mesh erosion. During surgery to remove the mesh, the left arm of the mesh was found to be through the external iliac vein. The right mesh arm traversed the bladder, laterally around the obturator nerve and right iliac vein, exiting through the peritone

OBJECTIVE: We sought to characterize the distribution of the pudendal nerve branches and to correlate findings with injury risk related to common midurethral sling procedures.
STUDY DESIGN: Dissections were performed in 18 female cadavers. Biopsies were obtained to confirm gross findings by histology.
RESULTS: In all dissections, most of the clitoral and perineal nerves coursed caudal to the ventral portion of the perineal membrane. The inferior rectal nerve did not enter the pudendal canal in 44% (n = 8) of specimens. Nerve tissue was confirmed histologically in tissue sampled.
CONCLUSION:

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: As newer materials and less invasive techniques emerge, treatment of stress urinary incontinence has increased over time. This shift has implications for the types of complications seen in contemporary practice compared to those even a few years ago. This review details prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of complications of sling surgery for stress urinary incontinence.
RECENT FINDINGS: Proper diagnosis and evaluation of stress urinary incontinence remains paramount in preventing surgical complications. Intraoperative complications, primarily bleeding and urinary tract in

The sub uretral slings (SUS) have supplanted all other techniques in the treatment of stress urinary incontinence in first-line both at ease, results, consequences and cost. However the results are comparable with the abdominal retropubic colposuspension. The elective indication for BSU is stress incontinence. In the mixed incontinence, the results are satisfactory and depend on the degree of urge incontinence. The intrinsic sphincter deficiency with mobile uretra can be used in indications laying BSU. Only a BMI ≥ 35 is a pejorative factor on the outcome of the SUS. Currently, all routes retr
