29 Patients of ages varying from 12 to 60 years were treated orally with doses of 0.07 g/kg body weight of ethereal extract of male-fern, preceded by the administration of hypertonic solution of magnesium sulphate (15 g in 200 ml of water). All of them were previously treated with other anthelminthics without success. 25 of the patients obtained total cure. One woman expelled 14 scoleces of T. solium. The species determination for the 29 cases of Taeniasis revealed 3 cases of T. solium (10.3%) and 26 cases of T. saginata (89.7%).

We report the development of 2 serological taeniasis diagnostic tests using recombinant antigens rES33 and rES38 expressed by baculovirus in insect cells in an EITB format. OBJECTIVE: Taenia solium infection is not endemic to Kuwait, butseveral casesof cysticercosis have been detected in Kuwaiti nationals with no history of travelling to endemic countries. Infected domestic helpers/food handlers from endemic countries who may have escaped detection of infection by microscopy at the time of their arrival in Kuwait have been suspected as the possible source of infection. Prevalence of intestinal helminthiasis: 970 stool specimens are examined in Doualare and 999 in Doursongo (Maroua) North Cameroon. In this sample eggs of T. saginata are seen in 14.0% of the specimens, eggs of A. lumbricoides in 5.1%, N. americanus in 5.8% and S. mansoni in 2.1%. The studies have demonstrated a high efficacy of prasiquantel in therapy of enteric cestodiases. No differences in the efficacy and tolerance of prasiquantel analogs manufactured by various pharmaceutic firms (azinox, CIS; pikiton, China; biltricide, Bayer, India; cesol, Merk, India; cisticide, Merk India) were detected. Prasiquantel single dose (15 mg/kg) efficacies in diphyllobothriasis, taeniarhynchiasis, and taeniasis made up 91.4, 98.5, and 100%, respectively. In hymenolepiasis the efficacy of a total dose (40 and 50 mg/kg given twice with a 10-day interval) was 88.9%.
