Tin oxide nanofibres (NFs) are used as nanosensors in electronic noses. Their performance is compared to that of oxide commercial chemical sensors for pollutant detection. NFs were grown by electrospinning and deposited onto silicon substrates with integrated micro-hotplates. NF morphology was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The NFs presented high sensitivity to NO₂ at low temperature.

With the motivation of discovering high-temperature superconductors, evolutionary algorithm USPEX is employed to search for all stable compounds in the Sn-H system. In addition to the traditional SnH4, new hydrides SnH8, SnH12 and SnH14 are found to be thermodynamically stable at high pressure. Dynamical stability and superconductivity of tin hydrides are systematically investigated. This study focuses on increasing the selectivity to methyl lactate from sugars using stannosilicates as heterogeneous catalyst. All group I ions are found to have a promoting effect on the resulting methyl lactate yield. In the system Ge-Sn-Sb-Te, there is a complete solid solution series between GeSb2Te4 and SnSb2Te4. As Sn2Sb2Te5 does not exist, Sn can only partially replace Ge in Ge2Sb2Te5; samples with 75% or more Sn are not homogeneous. The joint refinement of high-resolution synchrotron data measured at the K-absorption edges of Sn, Sb and Te combined with data measured at off-edge wavelengths unambiguously yields the element distribution in 21R-Ge(0.6)Sn(0.4)Sb2Te4 and 9P-Ge(1.3)Sn(0.7)Sb2Te5. Interaction between 1,4 Bis ((2-Methyl) thio) Phenylamino methyl benzene (BMTPMB) Schiff base with tin dioxide nanoparticles (SnO2 NPs) of various concentrations in methanol have been studied using UV-Visible and Fluorescence spectroscopic techniques. The low value of Stern-Volmer quenching constant and non-linear plot of Benesi-Hildebrand equation suggests the less affinity of SnO2 NPs towards the adsorption of BMTPMB Schiff base. The Scott equation has been employed to determine molar absorptivity of the Schiff base-NPs system.

Tin oxide nanosheets were crystallized on transparent conductive oxide substrates of fluorine-doped tin oxide in aqueous solutions. The paper describes a new and simple method for monitoring volatile organic compounds resulting from a specific industrial indoor process. The method is based on the characteristics of tin dioxide sensors to be sensitive and non-selective to a large variety of gases.
