Comparison of Voice Quality in Persian Parkinson Patients With Healthy Counterparts Using Cepstral Peak Prominence and Cepstral Peak Prominence-Smooth and Their Relationship With Disease Severity (UPDRS-III) and Disease Duration.

INTRODUCTION: One of the earliest impairments in Parkinson's patients is speech motor dysfunction, which adversely affects the phonation subsystem (voice). To date, acoustic frequency-dependent voice features such as cepstral peak prominence (CPP) and cepstral peak prominence-smooth (CPPS) have not been examined in Persian-speaking Parkinson's patients. This study aims to compare the voice quality of Persian Parkinson's patients with healthy counterparts using CPP and CPPS, as well as to investigate the relationship of these metrics with Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale-Part III (UPDRS

A Review of Factors Associated with Voice Problems in the Fitness Instructor Population.

There is a high prevalence of reported dysphonia symptomology in the fitness instructor population. This is concerning as these reported symptoms of dysphonia, aphonia, and vocal fatigue can significantly compromise quality of life. The purpose of this review is to explore key factors that may contribute to voice problems in the fitness instructor population. Voicing with concurrent phonation and exercise may be influenced by (1) the increased cardiovascular requirement during exercise, (2) the increased cognitive load associated with dual tasking, (3) the altered hydration state associated wi

Effect of Voice Therapy Using Semioccluded Vocal Tract Exercises in Singers and Nonsingers With Dysphonia.

OBJECTIVES: Voice therapy with semioccluded vocal tract exercises (SOVTE) has a long history of use in singers and nonsingers with dysphonia. SOVTE with increased vocal tract impedance leads to increased vocal efficiency and economy. Although there is a growing body of research on the physiological impact of SOVTE, and growing clinical sentiment about its therapeutic benefits, empirical data describing its potential efficacy in singers and nonsingers are lacking. The objective of the current study is to evaluate vocal tract function and voice quality in singers and nonsingers with dysphonia af
