The study aimed to examine the genetic contribution to buprenorphine (BUP) treatment in individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD), with a specific focus on BDNF and OPRM1 genes. A total of 113 controls and 111 OUD patients receiving sublingual BUP/naloxone were enrolled. OPRM1 A118G and BDNF Val66Met polymorphisms were investigated by PCR-FRLP. Our previous work showed that the pineal neurohormone melatonin induces activated T lymphocytes to release opioid peptides with immunoenhancing and anti-stress properties. The effect of prolonged intermittent infusion of beta-endorphin or naloxone into the third cerebral ventricle in ewes during the follicular phase of the estrous cycle on the expression of GnRH gene and GnRH-R gene in the hypothalamus and GnRH-R gene in the anterior pituitary gland was examined by Real time-PCR. Using a sensitive and precise radioimmunoassay for human beta-endorphin, we have demonstrated the sustained secretion of opioid peptides from human pituitary tumour cells. Pituitary tumour tissue obtained from a patient with Nelson's syndrome was maintained in continuous monolayer culture and secreted both beta-lipotropin and beta-endorphin, with predominance of the latter. This is compatible with the idea that the beta-endorphin in normal human serum is secreted as such despite the predominance of beta-lipotropin compared with beta-endorphin in the anterior pituitary.

We have looked for the presence of beta-endorphin and somatostatin in normal and inflamed pulps. The aim of this study was to evaluate plasma levels of beta-endorphins in babies with gastroesophageal reflux (GOR) admitted for acute life-threatening episodes (ALTE). In case of ALTE (n = 15), beta-endorphin levels were significantly increased compared to sudden infant deaths syndrome siblings with GOR of a similar gravity evaluated for risk factors (n = 13). beta-Endorphin levels are decreased following successful treatment of GOR. Studies of ventilation suggest that changes in the central respiratory drive are associated with a reduction in plasma beta-endorphin levels.
