Evaluation of PD-L1 Expression and HPV Genotyping in Anal Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Anal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a rare cancer with increasing incidence. Infection with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) subtypes is the major cause for its development. We retrospectively analyzed tumor samples from 54 anal SCC patients for infection with a panel of 32 HPV subtypes in a PCR-based approach, determined the PD-L1 expression status, and correlated the findings with the clinical data and the survival of the patients. Forty-two patients (77.8%) were HPV-positive and harbored at least one carcinogenic HPV subtype. HPV16 was the most frequently detected (n = 39, 72.2%). Fou

Dietary acrylamide intake and the risk of lymphatic malignancies: the Netherlands Cohort Study on diet and cancer.

BackgroundAcrylamide, a probable human carcinogen, is present in many everyday foods. Since the finding of its presence in foods in 2002, epidemiological studies have found some suggestive associations between dietary acrylamide exposure and the risk of various cancers. The aim of this prospective study is to investigate for the first time the association between dietary acrylamide intake and the risk of several histological subtypes of lymphatic malignancies.MethodsThe Netherlands Cohort Study on diet and cancer includes 120,852 men and women followed-up since September 1986. The number of pe

Rhabdomyosarcoma: Current Therapy, Challenges, and Future Approaches to Treatment Strategies.

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare cancer arising in skeletal muscle that typically impacts children and young adults. It is a worldwide challenge in child health as treatment outcomes for metastatic and recurrent disease still pose a major concern for both basic and clinical scientists. The treatment strategies for rhabdomyosarcoma include multi-agent chemotherapies after surgical resection with or without ionization radiotherapy. In this comprehensive review, we first provide a detailed clinical understanding of rhabdomyosarcoma including its classification and subtypes, diagnosis, and treatment str

Advancing Multiple Myeloma Immunotherapy: A Review of Chimeric Antigen Receptor T-Cell and Bispecific T-Cell Engagers Cell Therapies in Revolutionizing Treatment.

Multiple Myeloma (MM) is a hematologic malignancy characterized by clonal plasma cell development, leading to serious complications. Despite traditional treatments, MM remains incurable, necessitating innovative therapeutic approaches. Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy and Bispecific T-cell engagers (BiTEs) are emerging immunotherapies showing promise in MM treatment. CAR T-cell therapy involves modifying patient T-cells to target specific antigens, primarily B Cell Maturation Antigen (BCMA). BiTEs, on the other hand, are non-IgG-like bispecific antibodies designed to engage both

NK Cell-Based Immunotherapy in Renal Cell Carcinoma.

Natural killer (NK) cells are cytotoxic lymphocytes that are able to kill tumor cells without prior sensitization. It has been shown that NK cells play a pivotal role in a variety of cancers, highlighting their relevance in tumor immunosurveillance. NK cell infiltration has been reported in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the most frequent kidney cancer in adults, and their presence has been associated with patients' survival. However, the role of NK cells in this disease is not yet fully understood. In this review, we summarize the biology of NK cells and the mechanisms through which they are abl

Therapeutic potential of cytokine-induced killer cell therapy for renal cell carcinoma and prostate cancer.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and prostate cancer (PCa) are among the most prevalent and therapeutically challenging malignancies of the genitourinary system, particularly in advanced or metastatic stages. For advanced/metastatic RCC, targeted agents such as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have improved progression-free and overall survival. For metastatic castration-sensitive PCa, androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) combined androgen receptor pathway inhibitors (ARPIs) with or without chemotherapy remains the standard of care. Despite these advances, ther

FOXM1 contributes to treatment failure in acute myeloid leukemia.

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients with NPM1 mutations demonstrate a superior response to standard chemotherapy treatment. Our previous work has shown that these favorable outcomes are linked to the cytoplasmic relocalization and inactivation of FOXM1 driven by mutated NPM1. Here, we went on to confirm the important role of FOXM1 in increased chemoresistance in AML. A multiinstitution retrospective study was conducted to link FOXM1 expression to clinical outcomes in AML. We establish nuclear FOXM1 as an independent clinical predictor of chemotherapeutic resistance in intermediate-risk AML i

Beyond Palliation: Therapeutic Applications of 153Samarium-EDTMP.

Primary and metastatic malignant bone lesions result in significant pain and disability in oncology patients. Targeted bone-seeking radioisotopes including 153Samarium ethylene-diamine-tetramethylene-phosphonic acid (153Sm-EDTMP) have been shown to effectively palliate bone pain, often when external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) is not feasible. However, recent evidence also suggests 153Sm-EDTMP has cytotoxic activity either alone or in combination with chemotherapy or EBRT. 153Sm-EDTMP may be useful as anti-neoplastic therapy apart from pain palliation in a variety of malignancies. For prostate ca

The Clinical Relevance of Selected Cytokines in Newly Diagnosed Multiple Myeloma Patients.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is the second most common hematological neoplasm. Cytokines, chemokines, and their receptors, induced by the microenvironment of MM, participate in tumor growth, the attraction of leukocytes, cell homing, and bone destruction. This study aimed to assess the correlation between the pretreatment serum concentrations of interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-8 (IL-8), angiogenic chemokine monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the clinical outcomes and survival of patients newly diagnosed with MM. The study group consisted of
