BACKGROUND: Three different sites of needle insertion have been proposed for ilioinguinal-iliohypogastric (ILIH) nerve block. This double-blind study was designed to assess the quality of analgesia produced from these different sites.

In this study are noted technical problems regarding "en bloc" multiple organ resections and the anatomic and functional reconstruction for carcinoma of the upper stomach and cardia. Faecal incontinence is a problem that affects over 500,000 people in the UK, but unlike urinary incontinence is rarely spoken about or adequately addressed. The problem may arise from a range of causes, including obstetric trauma, surgery and neurological disorders. Like urinary incontinence, faecal incontinence can be managed. This article discusses one management option--the Peristeen Anal Plug--and illustrates with case histories the beneficial effect proper management of faecal incontinence can have on patients' lives.

BACKGROUND: Small Bowel Capsule Endoscopy is the first-choice technique for investigating the majority of small bowel diseases. Its most common complications are related to incomplete examinations and capsule retention. There is no consensus on how patients with previous gastrointestinal surgery should receive the capsule.
OBJECTIVE: The primary endpoint was to compare the rate of complete small-bowel examinations (completion rate) between oral ingestion and endoscopic delivery of the capsule. The secondary endpoint was to compare diagnostic yield and adverse events in the two groups.
