Efficacy of surgical treatment is related to the early diagnosis of extracranial injuries to the carotid arteries. Thirty-five patients with initial manifestations of brain circulatory failure were examined with the aid of spectral computer analysis of ultrasonograms (SCA USG). The paper describes a clinical observation made in a 51-year old patient with brain cysticercosis. The onset of the disease resulted from symptoms of diencephalic damage (altered blood pressure, subfebrility, drowsiness, hormonal abnormalities). Following 4 hours paroxysmal phenomena appeared. The diagnosis was established by using skull X-ray study and computed tomography.

Altogether 54 children with Gilles de la Tourette's disease (GTD) were under observation. Of these, 37 manifested disorders corresponding to the classical depiction of the disease. According to the results of a study into the patients' personality traits, carried out in connection with motor disturbances, the inhibitory (15 patients) and the excitable (22 patients) versions of the classical GTD were distinguished.

A study was made of the specificity of interhemispheric interaction in realization of acoustic and vocal processes in children with Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome. 27 patients aged 8 to 12 years were selected for the studies. The research method used was dichotic listening. There were material differences as regards the method indicated in the control (normal) and experimental (patients) groups as well as in the experimental group as regards different disease entities. There were statistically significant differences as regards the method within the experimental group.

A family in which 9 persons in three generations suffered from "pure" Strümpell's disease is described. The disease made is debut in early childhood and was characterized by slightly marked intrafamilial polymorphism. An electromyographic study was made. It has been proved that the pattern described is a "pure" disease variety inherited by the autosomal dominant type, with an early development of the clinical manifestations and slow progress of motor disturbances (up to 25 years). The nosology of the given disease pattern is under discussion.

A high incidence of the visual pathway involvement into the pathological process at an early stage of derangement was revealed in patients with multiple sclerosis and retrobulbar neuritis by means of visual pattern-stimulation. The data obtained point to the information content of the suggested method for examining the visual analyzer in patients with suspected multiple sclerosis.

The paper is concerned with the results of a clinicomorphological analysis of 17 cases of Creutzfeld's-Jacob disease (CJD) in patients aged 39 to 78 years. The authors show polymorphism of the clinical manifestations at the early stages of the disease and the necessity of differentiation between atherosclerotic dementia and tumors of the profound parts of the brain and sometimes with the high pattern of lateral amyotrophic sclerosis. The problem of the clinical varieties of CJD is discussed.

The authors discuss the problems of the age-associated range of multiple sclerosis, characteristics of its clinical manifestations and course in childhood. Provide two cases of multiple sclerosis that had set in 11-year- and 14-year-old children. The first case was marked by a polysymptomatic debut with retrobulbar neuritis of the optical nerves, astereognosis and atetoid hyperkinesis in the hand. The second case was characterized by remitting oculomotor, vestibular, pyramidal disorders associated with facial neuropathy.

The authors describe the results of immunological examination of patients suffering from vegetative prosopalgias. A study was made of the initial status of immunity and of its dynamics after treatment. The majority of patients manifested an increase of immunoglobulin A concentration and activation of local humoral immunity. The treatment brought about a reduction of immunoglobulin A concentration in blood serum.

Six patients with Lambert-Eaton myasthenic syndrome were analyzed for the character of the initial symptoms, the clinical course and typical lesions on electrophysiological and x-ray studies. The given myasthenic syndrome often anticipates tumor symptoms and patients, as a rule, are seen for a long time by neuropathologists with a diagnosis of myasthenia. The data of ours indicate a real opportunity of the use of neurological and electromyographic criteria for goal-oriented search of bronchogenic carcinoma at the earlier stages of its development.

A total of 63 patients were investigated in order to provide a psychological analysis of schizophrenia-related early childhood autism (ECA). Need and motivation were shown to play a major role in the disordered interpersonal communication characteristic of two types of mental dysontogenies in the pattern of ECA under this investigation. The dysontogeny type showed a relation to the nature and depth of communicative disorder. The ways of its psychological correction targeted at the ECA children's social rehabilitation were outlined.

It is advisable that in the treatment of neurotic patients with marked vegetovascular manifestations, instrumental autotraining may be employed. It includes biomonitoring with pulse rate feedback according to the alternating sinusoidal law. The procedure of the autotraining is described in detail. 10 to 13 sessions of the autotraining given to such patients undergoing hospital treatment that also included routine therapy considerably improved the treatment results. The autotraining can thus be considered as a kind of the training of the mechanisms responsible for vegetative function regulation
