DMSF-YOLO: Cow Behavior Recognition Algorithm Based on Dynamic Mechanism and Multi-Scale Feature Fusion.

The behavioral changes of dairy cows directly reflect their health status, and observing the behavioral changes of dairy cows can provide a scientific basis for dairy farms so managers can take timely measures to intervene and effectively prevent diseases. Because of the complex background, multi-scale behavior changes of dairy cows, similar behavior, and difficulty in detecting small targets in the actual dairy farm environment, this study proposes a dairy cow behavior recognition algorithm, DMSF-YOLO, based on dynamic mechanism and multi-scale feature fusion, which can quickly and accurately

Ocular Causes for Undesired Behaviors in the Horse.

Numerous ocular diseases cause visual impairment and induce ocular pain that may be associated with undesired behaviors in horses. Horses with ocular pain, indicated by the presence of blepharospasm, blepharoedema, ocular discharge or rubbing the eye, should be rested from work to avoid worsening the ocular disease and to avoid undesired behaviors associated with pain or vision impairment. Horses with ocular disease are frequently head shy. Some stoic horses may not have obvious outward clinical signs despite significant visual impairment, and as such, undesired behaviors such as spooking, bal

Terrorism and the behavioral sciences.

Terrorism has existed for millennia and is a phenomenon well-known to many parts of the world. Americans were forced to recognize this phenomenon, and our vulnerability to it, by two sets of events in 2001: the attacks on New York City and Washington, DC, and the anthrax mailings that followed shortly thereafter. Psychiatry, psychology, and other behavioral and social sciences have been looked to for assistance in collecting and analyzing intelligence data, understanding terrorism, and developing strategies to combat terrorism. In addition to reviewing areas in which the behavioral sciences ha

Mental retardation and neurological deficits in a twin orangutan.

The second born of a pair of twin orangutans displayed marked behavioral disabilities. To evaluate these disabilities, a series of cognitive, learning, and neurological tests were administered to both twins. The disabled twin showed marked retardation in delayed response and oddity problems and an inability to use tools. The neurological evaluation demonstrated a variety of deficits consistent with damage to the pyramidal motor system. Karyotyping of the twin showed no evidence of chromosomal abnormality. The neurological and behavioral disorders suggested an etiology of perinatal hypoxia. A s

Observations on laryngeal disease, laryngeal behavior and voice.

This discussion accepted the hypothesis that every laryngeal sound is produced by its unique type of vocal cord vibration. The production of vocal sound is not capricious, it follows certain laws many of which are not known. Research into the behavior of the larynx has produced some interesting and perhaps, useful findings. It was the intention of this paper to describe some of the features of laryngeal behavior as they relate to both phonation and laryngeal disorders in the belief that such knowledge lends itself to the more efficient management of certain vocal and laryngeal problems. The ce

Measuring determinants of occupational health related behavior in Flemish farmers: an application of the Theory of Planned Behavior.

PROBLEM: Preventive interventions to reduce occupational injuries and health problems in farmers require the identification of factors that contribute to unsafe and health damaging behavior. This paper describes the development and validation of a self-report questionnaire, which measures the determinants of occupational health-related behaviors in farmers. METHOD: A representative sample of 283 Flemish farmers completed a provisional 135 item questionnaire based on the Theory of Planned Behavior, measuring four behaviors related to occupational health (machinery use, animal handling, prevent

Sex-specific effect of maternal pre-pregnancy BMI on neuropsychiatric development of offspring.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Children of overweight and obese mothers had an increased risk of neuropsychiatric problems. It remains unclear if the association varies by child sex. This study aimed to identify the associations between maternal pre-pregnancy BMI and child sex-specific neuropsychiatric development outcomes during childhood. We aimed to examine whether maternal pre-pregnancy BMI was related to offspring's neurodevelopment and explore if associations vary by child sex. METHODS: This was a retrospective cohort study. Overall, 2013 children conceived by assisted reproductive technology (A

Characterizing aggressive behavior.

In the research literature, aggressive behavior has traditionally been classified into two distinct subtypes, impulsive or premeditated. Impulsive aggression is defined as a hair-trigger aggressive response to provocation with loss of behavioral control. Premeditated aggression is defined as a planned or conscious aggressive act, not spontaneous or related to an agitated state. The present study outlines the development of a clinically useful self-report instrument, the Impulsive/Premeditated Aggression Scales (IPAS), designed to characterize aggressive behavior as predominately impulsive or p

Approaching alcohol problems through local environmental interventions.

One approach for reducing alcohol and other drug problems is community-based prevention programs. These programs focus on changing the environment in which a person consumes alcohol rather than the behavior of the individual drinker. Several international and U.S. programs have assessed the effectiveness of such approaches in reducing alcohol-related problems. Some of those analyses have had inconclusive results. Others, however, found reductions in alcohol-related problems such as drunk driving, alcohol-related car crashes and their consequences, the sale of alcohol to underage drinkers, and

The near-death experience as a focus of clinical attention.

Near-death experiences (NDEs) often produce profound changes in attitudes and behavior that can lead to psychosocial and psychospiritual problems. The diagnostic label of religious or spiritual problem, included in DSM-IV under the category of other conditions that may be a focus of clinical attention, was originally proposed to encompass NDEs and their aftereffects. Four cases are discussed in which patients presented with NDE-related problems, and differential diagnosis and current treatment strategies are reviewed. The inclusion of this new diagnostic category in the DSM-IV permits differen

Withdrawn and Acting out?: Early Adolescents' Social Avoidance and Externalizing Problems.

Relative to other motivations of social withdrawal (i.e., shyness, unsociability), social avoidance is understudied. Furthermore, the relation between social avoidance and externalizing problems seldom has been investigated despite reasons to expect an association. We examined the association between social avoidance and externalizing problems using a sample of early adolescents in the United States using parents' reports (N = 294; 54.1% boys; M age = 12.43 years). Supporting our hypotheses, structural equation models indicated that social avoidance positively predicted concurrent externalizin

Doing recovery online.

Although problem gambling is becoming more prevalent, research shows that many problem gamblers do not seek help. Online social support forums have become an increasingly popular option for receiving support for problem gambling. Few researchers have explored how participants within these forums interact, or what is supportive about participation in online communities. Melding netnography (ethnographic approaches online), discourse analysis, and ethnomethodology, we analyzed the discursive interactions of self-identified problem gamblers on an online forum. We report on the characteristics of

A Recognition Method of Ewe Estrus Crawling Behavior Based on Multi-Target Detection Layer Neural Network.

There are some problems with estrus detection in ewes in large-scale meat sheep farming: mainly, the manual detection method is labor-intensive and the contact sensor detection method causes stress reactions in ewes. To solve the abovementioned problems, we proposed a multi-objective detection layer neural network-based method for ewe estrus crawling behavior recognition. The approach we proposed has four main parts. Firstly, to address the problem of mismatch between our constructed ewe estrus dataset and the YOLO v3 anchor box size, we propose to obtain a new anchor box size by clustering th

Encephalitis in Children: Viruses and Beyond.

Encephalitis is commonly caused by viruses. But beyond viruses there are so many causes of encephalitis. Encephalitis is the inflammation of the brain parenchyma due to any reason. As there are so many causes of encephalitis presentations are also variable. So to diagnose encephalitis a set of clinical, laboratory, electroencephalographic and neuroimaging criteria is used. Any children attend medical facility with sudden onset altered mental status along with any of the following features like fever, seizure, focal neurological signs should be evaluated as encephalitis. Viruses are the common

Q fever in the Netherlands: public perceptions and behavioral responses in three different epidemiological regions: a follow-up study.

BACKGROUND: Over the past years, Q fever has become a major public health problem in the Netherlands, with a peak of 2,357 human cases in 2009. In the first instance, Q fever was mainly a local problem of one province with a high density of large dairy goat farms, but in 2009 an alarming increase of Q fever cases was observed in adjacent provinces. The aim of this study was to identify trends over time and regional differences in public perceptions and behaviors, as well as predictors of preventive behavior regarding Q fever. METHODS: One cross-sectional survey (2009) and two follow-up survey

Development and behavior screening of 4-year-old Brazilian children: prevalence and associated factors.

Early identification of developmental and behavioral delays could improve child's health in the long term. The aim was to determine the prevalence and explore the associated factors with child development and behavior. A cross-sectional study was carried out with Brazilian children aged 4 years old and their respective caregivers. Child's development and behavior were assessed using the Brazilian screening tool version of the Survey of Well-being of Young Children. Generalized linear models were used to analyze the associations between explicative variables and outcomes. Prevalence of suspecte

Neuropsychological profiles of six children with anoxic brain injury.

Anoxic brain injury (ABI) often results in severe memory impairment and other cognitive and behavioral deficits, although limited information is available regarding pediatric cases. This study reported the neuropsychological outcomes in six children and adolescents who sustained ABI. Profiles were compared by mechanism of injury (ischemic vs. hypoxemic) and three cases were evaluated more than once. Severe intellectual, attention, memory, and behavioral impairments were observed in all six cases although academic achievement, internalizing behavioral problems, and visuospatial deficits were in
