Prenatal prediction of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome using uteroplacental Doppler and placental microvascular perfusion indices: development of a risk model.

BACKGROUND: Neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (NRDS) is a leading cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality; however, current antenatal risk assessments lack physiological specificity. This study aimed to evaluate the early predictive value of mid-pregnancy placental perfusion indices derived from three-dimensional power Doppler (3D-PD) imaging-the vascularization index (VI), flow index (FI), and vascularization flow index (VFI)-together with conventional Doppler parameters [e.g., the uterine artery pulsatility index (UtA-PI), cerebroplacental ratio (CPR)] and maternal clinical factors fo

Cerebral-placental-uterine ratio as novel predictor of late fetal growth restriction: prospective cohort study.

OBJECTIVE: Fetal growth restriction (FGR) is a major risk factor for stillbirth and most commonly arises from uteroplacental insufficiency. Despite clinical examination and third-trimester fetal biometry, cases of FGR often remain undetected antenatally. Placental insufficiency is known to be associated with altered blood flow resistance in maternal, placental and fetal vessels. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of individual and combined Doppler blood flow resistance measurements in the prediction of term small-for-gestational age and FGR. METHODS: This was a prospective

No impact of intravenous thrombolysis on post thrombectomy transcranial Doppler pulsatility index.

BACKGROUND: While transcranial Doppler (TCD) studies are beneficial in evaluating macrovascular recanalization post mechanical thrombectomy (MT), they may have a role in estimating microvascular reperfusion. We aim to (1) evaluate if TCD-derived pulsatility index (PI) ratio is different in large vessel occlusion stroke (LVOS) patients that received intravenous thrombolysis (IVT), indicating potential beneficial impact on microvascular reperfusion, and (2) assess whether TCD metrics correlate with clinical and safety outcomes. METHODS: This is a retrospective analysis of consecutive patients t

Variations in the Profiles of Vascular-Related Factors Among Different Sub-Types of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in Northern China.

Recently, a growing body of evidence has suggested that abnormal ovarian angiogenesis, secondary to the imbalance between various angiogenic markers, is involved in the pathogenesis of PCOS, and this has led to the use of various interventions (such as Diane-35) to restore the normal ovarian angiogenesis. Therefore, we conducted the current investigation to determine the role of such markers (endothelial growth factor (VEGF), endostatin (ES), and thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1)) in the pathogenesis of PCOS along with the associated changes in ovarian blood flow in patients with PCOS compared to healt

MiRNAs Regulating Oxidative Stress: A Correlation with Doppler Sonography of Uteroplacental Complex and Clinical State Assessments of Newborns in Fetal Growth Restriction.

Overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and, as a result, uncontrolled oxidative stress (OS) can play a central role in disorders of fetal hemodynamics and subsequent development of adverse perinatal outcomes in newborns with fetal growth restriction (FGR). Given the epigenetic nature of such disorders, the aim of our study was to evaluate the expression of miRNAs associated with OS and endothelial dysfunction (miR-27a-3p, miR-30b-5p, miR-125b-5p, miR-221-3p, miR-451a and miR-574-3p) in umbilical cord blood using real-time quantitative RT-PCR. ΜiRNA expression was evaluated in patients

Duration of persistent abnormal ductus venosus flow and its impact on perinatal outcome in fetal growth restriction.

OBJECTIVE: To study if the duration of individual Doppler abnormalities is an independent predictor of adverse outcome in fetal growth restriction (FGR) caused by placental dysfunction. METHODS: This was a secondary analysis of patients with FGR (abdominal circumference < 5(th) percentile and umbilical artery (UA) pulsatility index (PI) elevation) who had at least three examinations before delivery. Days of duration of absent/reversed UA end-diastolic velocity (UA-AREDV), low middle cerebral artery PI (brain sparing), ductus venosus (DV) and umbilical vein Doppler abnormalities were related t

Risk factors for cerebrovascular events: end-diastolic flow velocity.

INTRODUCTION: There are very few studies analysing blood flow velocity parameters of common carotid arteries (CCA), obtained with color Doppler examination as a predictor in cerebrovascular events (CVE). In everyday clinical practice there are number of patients (pts) without carotid stenosis or occlusion but with decreased blood flow velocities. AIM: We performed this study to compare data of velocity parameters with type of cerebrovascular events (CVE) and multiple risk factors in patients without stenotic or occlusive extracranial disease. METHODS: We included total of 127 consecutive pat

Uterine artery S/D ratio and serum CA125 as predictors of early pregnancy loss in women with ovarian endometriomas: a retrospective case-control study.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis affects approximately 10% of women of reproductive age and is associated with increased risks of infertility and miscarriage. Although the spontaneous miscarriage rate in women with endometriosis is higher than in the general population, specific risk factors and predictive markers for early pregnancy loss in this population remain poorly understood, particularly for women with smaller endometriomas who achieve natural conception. This study aimed to investigate risk factors for early spontaneous miscarriage in women with endometriosis with natural conception and eval

Pulsatility Index Measurement via the Submandibular Internal Carotid Artery: An Alternative to Transcranial Assessment.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: Pulsatility index (PI) measurements using transcranial color flow imaging via the temporal bone are one of the clinical substitutes for invasive intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring. Although the PI measurements obtained through this window are commonly used, they cannot be evaluated in up to 20% of the patients. Given that PI in the internal carotid artery (ICA) can be easily measured through the submandibular window in all cases, this study aimed to investigate whether PI measurements through the submandibular window could be used as a substitute for PI measurements i

The role of transcranial Doppler in predicting the incidence and prognosis of sepsis-associated encephalopathy.

BACKGROUND: Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) is a common complication of sepsis, contributing to poor outcomes and increased mortality. Early detection remains challenging due to the absence of observable direct brain injury. Transcranial Doppler (TCD) ultrasonography provides a non-invasive, bedside tool for assessing cerebral hemodynamics and may help identify patients at risk. SAE was defined as new-onset delirium (positive CAM-ICU) or unexplained coma (GCS < 8) not attributable to structural or metabolic causes. This study aimed to evaluate the role of TCD in predicting the incidence
