Engagement Patterns With an Artificial Intelligence Health Coach for Systemic Sclerosis Self-Management: A Mixed Methods Study.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate utility of an artificial intelligence (AI) health coach for systemic sclerosis (SSc) self-management and identify patterns associated with participant engagement. METHODS: We conducted a mixed methods study in which an AI health coach, powered by a large language model (LLM), was used to support self-management for SSc. Twenty individuals with SSc interacted with the AI health coach over four weeks. Quantitative usage metrics (number of conversations, user messages, and chat duration) were used to classify participants into high- and low-engagement groups. A qualitative

Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for the Management of Patients With GI Cancers.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential of reshaping GI oncology by enabling more nuanced interpretation of complex clinical, imaging, and molecular data, while supporting more timely and patient-centered decisions. This article synthesizes perspectives across the GI cancer continuum, beginning with a framework for context-aware AI that emphasizes metadata, multimodal integration, and lifecycle quality and safety as foundations for trustworthy tools that clarify, rather than conceal, uncertainty. Next, AI in endoscopy is highlighted as an example in clinic practice, focusing on computer

Speech and Language Markers of Bipolar Disorder: Challenges and Opportunities.

BACKGROUND: Clinicians aspire to predict the emergence of Bipolar Disorder (BD) in a timely manner. To accomplish this, markers reflecting mental states that can be gathered non-invasively and at large scale are needed. Here, we systematically evaluate evidence relating speech-based markers to mood states in BD. METHODS: We searched Medline and Google Scholar for all published studies in English up to February 2026 on the use of speech markers in BD. We undertook thematic analysis on abstracts using topic modeling and a qualitative gap analysis to identify potential opportunities for future r

GETgene-AI: a framework for prioritizing actionable cancer drug targets.

Prioritizing actionable drug targets is a critical challenge in cancer research, where high-dimensional genomic data and the complexity of tumor biology often hinder effective prioritization. To address this, we developed GETgene-AI, a novel computational framework that integrates network-based prioritization, machine learning, and automated literature analysis to prioritize and rank potential therapeutic targets. Central to GETgene-AI is the G.E.T. strategy, which combines three data streams: mutational frequency (G List), differential expression (E List), and known drug targets (T List). The

The impact of inflammatory bowel disease on dementia risk: a current systematic review and meta-analysis.

Emerging evidence indicates that inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and dementia may share underlying pathological mechanisms and risk factors. However, the association between a prior IBD diagnosis and the subsequent risk of dementia remains largely unexplored. We conducted a comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library up to February 4, 2025, without language restrictions. Two reviewers independently extracted data and evaluated methodological quality and risk of bias. Observational studies comparing dementia risk in IBD and non-IBD populations were included. Pooled effect

Mapping of critical prosodic and phonetic networks in post-stroke apraxia of speech.

PURPOSE: Many have made proposals to better diagnose and/or classify post-stroke apraxia of speech (AOS), with some arguing for the separation of AOS into behavioral subtypes. Recent studies of primary progressive AOS have promoted a separation of prosodic and phonetic subtypes, aligning with a dual-motor coordination model separating the neural substrates of prosodic and phonetic function. Motivated by the limited corroboration of these subtypes in post-stroke AOS, here we present mapping results in a cohort of stroke survivors aiming to identify distinct neural substrates for prosodic and ph

Increasing Adherence to Societal Recommendations in Radiology Reporting: A Feasibility Study Using Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound Guidelines for Incidentally Detected Gallbladder Polyps.

Incidental findings in diagnostic imaging are common, but follow-up recommendations often lack consistency. The Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound (SRU) issued guidelines in 2021 for managing incidentally detected gallbladder polyps, aiming to balance follow-up with avoiding overtreatment. There is variable adherence to these guidelines in radiology reports, however, which makes it difficult for the clinician to pursue appropriate follow-up for the patient. The purpose of this project is to test the feasibility of a Large Language Model (LLM)-based tool to incorporate SRU guidelines into ra

Tone Deafness in Music Does Not Preclude Distributional Learning of Nonnative Tonal Languages in Individuals With Congenital Amusia.

PURPOSE: Previous studies have shown that individuals with congenital amusia exhibit deficient pitch processing across music and language domains. This study investigated whether adult Chinese-speaking listeners with amusia were still able to learn Thai lexical tones based on stimulus frequency of statistical distribution via distributional learning, despite their degraded lexical tone perception. METHOD: Following a pretest-training-posttest design, 21 amusics and 23 typical, musically intact listeners were assigned into bimodal and unimodal distribution conditions. Listeners were asked to d

Exploring whether mental health crisis text conversations that include discussion of firearms differ from those without firearms.

BACKGROUND: Firearm violence represents a public health crisis in the United States. Yet, there is limited knowledge about how firearms are discussed in the context of mental health emergencies representing a major gap in the current research literature. This study addresses this gap by examining whether the content of mental health crisis text conversations that mention firearms differ from those that do not mention firearms in a large, unique dataset from a national crisis text line. METHODS: We examined data from over 3.2 million conversations between texters to Crisis Text Line and volunt

The European Stroke Organisation Guidelines: a standard operating procedure.

In 2008, the recently founded European Stroke Organisation published its guidelines for the management of ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack. This highly cited document was translated in several languages and was updated in 2009. Since then, the European Stroke Organisation has published guidelines for the management of intracranial aneurysms and subarachnoidal hemorrhage, for the establishment of stroke units and stroke centers, and recently for the management of intracerebral hemorrhage. In recent years, the methodology for the development of guidelines has evolved significantly.
