EA-DualGAT: An error-aware dual-graph attention framework for Parkinson's disease diagnosis from wearable plantar pressure gait signals.

Timely diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) is essential for timely intervention and effective disease management. Wearable sensing technologies provide objective gait measurements and have become a promising, low-cost solution for automated PD diagnosis. However, existing deep learning and graph-based methods primarily focus on individual gait representations or fixed graph structures, often overlooking relationships among gait samples, difficult samples, and adaptive graph refinement during training. To address these limitations, this study proposes EA-DualGAT, an Error-Aware Dual Graph Att

SpaHNR: a spatial domain identification method via sparse attention-based hierarchical node representation and multi-view contrastive learning.

BACKGROUND: Leveraging deep learning on spatial transcriptomics data enables the identification of distinct spatial domains within tissues, thereby clarifies the spatial organization of cells and their gene expression. This detailed spatial understanding is crucial for dissecting intricate biological processes and the mechanisms of disease. However, existing computational approaches often analyze cell or spot (representing a small number of cells) adjacency relationships at a single level of detail (resolution), overlooking the natural hierarchical organization inherent in biological tissues.

[A method for predicting neurological outcomes after cardiac arrest based on time-frequency domain feature fusion].

Accurate neurological outcome assessment after cardiac arrest is critical for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Existing electroencephalogram (EEG) prediction models suffer from high computational complexity, redundant full-channel data, and insufficient fusion of time-frequency domain features. This study proposes a lightweight deep learning model, WaveConv-SR-RepVGG, based on adaptive time-frequency feature fusion and reparameterized convolution. Taking the reparameterized visual convolutional network (RepVGG) as the baseline framework, the model introduces a shrinkage (SR) mechanism into th

Two-stage deep learning framework for the restoration of incomplete-ring PET images.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is an important molecular imaging tool widely used in medicine. Traditional PET systems rely on complete detector rings for full angular coverage and reliable data collection. However, incomplete-ring PET scanners have emerged due to hardware failures, cost constraints, or specific clinical needs. Standard reconstruction algorithms often suffer from performance degradation with these systems because of reduced data completeness and geometric inconsistencies. We present a two-stage deep-learning framework that, without incorporating any time-of-flight (TOF) in

Modeling the empathy-self-discovery paradox in Gen Z social behavior with NPD using artificial neural networks.

This study investigates the resurgence of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) among Generation Z, theorizing its popularity as a social code that both reveals and responds to a contemporary "empathy-self-discovery paradox" with correlates to narcissistic personality traits. We posit that the MBTI's function as an identity marker fulfills needs for belonging while simultaneously enabling a curated, performative self-presentation aligned with subclinical narcissistic dynamics, such as external validation-seeking and identity fragmentation. Framed within theories of consumer sociology, the Bar

Decoding phantom limb movements from intraneural recordings.

Limb loss causes severe sensorimotor deficits and often necessitates prosthetic devices, particularly in lower-limb amputees. Although direct neural recording from residual nerves offers a biomimetic route for prosthetic control, low signal amplitudes and challenges in nerve interfacing have limited adoption. Intraneural multichannel electrodes provide a potential solution by enabling access to motor signals from muscles lost after amputation. Here, we report intraneural recordings from two transfemoral amputees using transversal intrafascicular multichannel electrodes implanted in distal bran

Deep learning-based region merging with adaptive threshold optimization for building segmentation in remote sensing images.

Precise extraction of buildings from high-resolution remote sensing images is essential for urban analysis and land management. However, accurately extracting buildings as a region of interest (ROI) from remote sensing (RS) images remains challenging. This difficulty arises from the spectral similarity of other objects, such as roads, cars, or trees, along with limited information on building boundaries and small buildings. Traditional image segmentation methods often rely on a fixed threshold value, making optimisation difficult in cases of over-segmented regions. As a result, region merging

DreamFold: A World Model to efficiently generate protein folding pathways in the latent space.

While there is an abundance of static data for the structure of biological macromolecules, the data regarding their folding mechanisms and dynamics is scarce, posing a challenge to the training of AI models. The World Model approach, which has been very successful in robotics, can come in handy in this regard. From limited data, it can build a latent, approximated representation of the spatio-temporal folding environment that can be used to train downstream AI models. Here, we developed DreamFold, a World Model-based generative framework to perform biomolecular simulations. DreamFold encodes p

Enhanced design of a photonic crystal biosensor for early cervical cancer detection using refractive index variation and neural network classification.

This study introduces a new optical sensor designed to help detect cervical cancer early, using light and special materials called photonic crystals. The sensor has been built using a simple grid of tiny silicon rods that guide light through a small pathway. When this light passes through different types of cervical tissue (healthy, HPV-infected, or cancerous) it changes slightly, de-pending on the tissue’s properties. These changes help to identify the type of tissue without needing any dyes or labels. A key innovation of the proposed work is considering the impact of temperature on sensor pe

Species-aware prediction of fish acute toxicity improves hazard screening and prioritization of environmentally detected pharmaceuticals.

Widespread contamination of surface waters by active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) leads to ubiquitous exposure in fish, critical sentinels in aquatic food webs. However, ecotoxicity assessment remains constrained by pronounced interspecies differences in sensitivity and by the scarcity of toxicity data for fish species representative of distinct ecoregions. To support hazard screening of environmentally detected APIs, we developed an ensemble model integrating Deep Neural Networks (DNN) with six other machine learning models. Trained on 10,054 acute toxicity data points (4190 groups, 1651
