The active transport of fluorescein by the retinal vessels and the retina.

1. The movement of fluorescein across the retinal surface of the rabbit's eye was estimated by measuring the concentration gradient of the dye in the vitreous body. These measurements were made in vivo by means of a slit-lamp fluorophotometer, or were taken from frozen sections of enucleated eyes.2. In the normal eye, fluorescein does not pass from the blood to the vitreous body across any part of the retina. When injected into the vitreous body it passes rapidly out across the entire retinal surface, even against a very large concentration gradient.3. A variety of metabolic and competitive in

Optimizing Ocular Surface Disease (OSD) Management in Patients with Glaucoma: Expert Strategies from Asia.

INTRODUCTION: Ocular surface disease (OSD) commonly affects glaucoma patients and can occur due to the disease itself and multiple contributing factors, such as the long-term use of preserved topical medications, thereby impacting adherence and treatment outcomes. In Asia, rising glaucoma burden and variability in regional guidelines underscore the need for a practical synthesis of current literature in the region. This review summarizes the OSD treatment landscape in Asia and proposes a pragmatic approach for identifying and managing concomitant OSD in patients with glaucoma. MATERIAL AND ME

Dynamics of Inflammatory Factors in Aqueous Humor During Brolucizumab Treatment for Age-Related Macular Degenerations: A Case Series.

Anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) treatment with intravitreal brolucizumab (IVBr) was launched as a novel treatment for neovascular age-related macular degeneration (AMD), but the incidence of intraocular inflammation (IOI) as a specific adverse effect of brolucizumab has been reported. We evaluated the dynamics of inflammatory factors in AMD in patients with or without IOI before and after anti-VEGF treatment with IVBr. We describe three patients who did not develop inflammation after three consecutive administrations of IVBr and three in whom inflammation occurred after the firs

[National protocol for the diagnosis and management of Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome: Summary for the primary care physician].

Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome/anomaly (ARS) is a rare genetic disorder with an autosomal dominant inheritance pattern, characterized by dysgenesis of the anterior segment of the eye. It may present with systemic anomalies (Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome) or without (Axenfeld anomaly) and may sometimes be associated with multiple congenital malformations. The estimated prevalence ranges from 1 in 50,000 to 1 in 200,000 live births, with an approximate rate of 1 in 100,000, but no epidemiological studies have been conducted to date. A clinical diagnosis of Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome requires the presence of
