OBJECTIVE: In this study, a new type of reduction device for femoral shaft fractures was developed and designed. The reduction procedure was also standardized and is expected to be useful in clinical practice.
METHODS: A bone traction retractor that consisted of a special traction needle, a resistant sleeve, a crossbar and an arc-adjusting bar was designed. Forty-eight patients (32 males and 16 females, mean age 33.21±7.03 years old) with femoral shaft fractures treated in our hospital from January 2016 to December 2017 were selected. According to the AO classification, there were 15 patients

INTRODUCTION: Atypical femoral fractures (AFFs) are an uncommon yet serious complication associated with long-term bisphosphonate use for osteoporosis treatment. Despite their rising incidence, the optimal management strategy for AFFs is still a work in progress. Intramedullary nailing has traditionally been the preferred treatment; however, literature reports surprisingly high complication rates. This study evaluates the clinical outcomes of unitized nail-plate construct (NPC)-"Linking the nail with the plate with locking bolts through the plate and nail, proximal and distal to the fracture s

BACKGROUND: Atypical femoral fracture (AFF) is a rare complication in patients with osteoporosis undergoing long-term bisphosphonate therapy. The most common symptom of incomplete AFF is nonspecific thigh pain, which is often difficult to distinguish from other causes.
CASE PRESENTATION: We present two cases of AFF misdiagnosed as lumbar radiculopathy. Both patients visited our hospital for thigh pain, and in both cases the findings of lumbar spine magnetic resonance imaging showed substantial nerve compression. These patients had been treated for lumbar radiculopathy, but localized symptoms

BACKGROUND: Recommended treatment for severely displaced proximal humeral fractures in children is the closed reduction and percutaneous fixation by K-wires or intramedullary nailing.
METHODS: From January 2016 to January 2017 6, 21 children/adolescents (range 8 to 16 years) with proximal humeral fractures were treated surgically for severe displacement. In these six patients, several attempts of closed reduction were unsuccessful, and an open reduction was performed. The humeral head was fixed with a 3.5 mm T-plate without affecting the growth plate. Plate removal was performed at a mean int

114 children with femoral shaft fractures were treated between 1975 and 1981 at the Department of Paediatric Surgery of the University of Munich. Follow-up examination of 80 children with 81 femoral fractures was possible. 57% were treated conservatively by traction, 43% got an operative treatment by plate osteosynthesis or nailing. With regard to leg length discrepancies there was a significant difference between a control group of children without preceding trauma and one with femoral fractures. After conservative treatment we found an average discrepancy of 0.24 cm. Overgrowth could not be

Children and adolescents with metabolic bone disease present to the orthopedic surgeon with pain, fractures (which may be impending), and deformity. Different modalities of orthopedic management are available. Scant literature exists on the use of rigid intramedullary nailing in this population. This study sought to evaluate the utilization of this treatment modality in the pediatric cohort, focusing on indications, techniques, and outcomes of the procedures. A retrospective review was performed over an 11-year period at a single tertiary pediatric institution in the UK. Medical records and ra

INTRODUCTION: Closed reduction and fixation using a cephalomedullary nail represents the accepted management of unstable intertrochanteric fractures. Cut-through has been described as a complication associated with the treatment. Although a hip arthroplasty may be the most predictable revision method, a non-prosthetic option can lead to similar results. The objective is to describe a non-prosthetic revision procedure in cases of cut-through.
METHOD: We performed a retrospective analysis of our Institutional Registry for Hip Fractures in elderly patients (RIAFC) from January 2010 to June 2018

OBJECTIVE: We describe a novel technique for removing broken intra-medullary femoral nails METHODS: This technique involves the initial removal of the blade, screw at proximal femur, and proximal part of the broken nail. A hole is then drilled in the remnant nail and a cerclage wire passed into the hole. The distal interlocking screw is then removed, before removing the nail.
RESULTS: In these case studies, the nail was removed from the patients using the technique of drilling a hole into the remnant nail and passing a cerclage wire through for removal, without any complications.
CONCLUSION:

Treatment of pediatric femoral shaft fractures is actual subject of modern traumatology, because of high frequency and different types of treatment. Nowadays Osteosynthesis by Titanium Elastic intramedullary nails (TEN) is the most popular method of treatment for pediatric shaft fractures. As an other methods of treatment Osteosynthesis by TEN also has some complications. In our study we analyzed 119 patients 2 to 15 years of age with pediatric femoral shaft fractures who underwent operative treatment by TEN. According to Flynn's scoring criteria for TEN our patients had in 87 cases (73%) exce

Extensor pollicis longus tendon (EPL) injury is a potential complication of dorsal entry radial elastic nailing technique in children. The aim of this study was to investigate if intraoperative ultrasonographic guidance can reduce the risk of (EPL) injury.Correlation between sonographic and operative findings were examined first in 6 adult cadavers. Position of Lister's tubercle, EPL, and extraosseal end of the elastic nail were detected by ultrasound imaging during a minimally invasive dorsal entry nailing. Radial slope of Lister's eminence was determined as a safe and easily identifiable ent
