A total of 150 patients, predominantly children, with torsion dystonia++ (TD) were investigated. Their clinical syndromes, pathogenesis and results of treatment were analyzed. Prominent features were interfamilial (true heterogeneity) and intrafamilial clinical polymorphism of the disease. Autosome-dominant++ type of inheritance was found in 15 families and the autosome-recessive in 10. Clinical investigation was performed and dopamine metabolism (renal catecholamine excretion) studied in 29 children and 5 adults with various forms of CP, 5 myasthenic children and 1 child with Strümpel disease treated with Nakom. The therapy was judged expedient in 20% of the cases of pronounced muscular rigidity and dystonia with decreased dopamine excretion. The drug proved ineffective in atonic, astatic, severe hyperkinetic arms, and in cases with severe psycho-organic signs.

In 21 patients with idiopathic retrobulbar neuritis (IRN) the optic nerve function was assessed using visual evoked potentials under a reversible black-and-white chessboard pattern stimulation. The authors present the clinical and genealogical description of 6 patients with neuroectodermal dysplasia diagnosed by a medical expedition party in Khankin district of the Khorezm region. Unique combination of clinical signs (total alopecia, microcephalia, oligophrenia, hyperhydrosis and hypogenitalism) helped differentiating the syndrome from other well-known hereditary neuroectodermal dysplasias. The nature of the syndrome segregation in the families suggested its autosomal-recessive mode of inheritance.

The authors describe a familial form of childhood spinal amyotrophy. Among 7 patients in the M. family, 5 were diagnosed to suffer from type II spinal amyotrophy and 2 from type III. It is of interest to mention that type II was observed only in boys whereas type III in girls. The data of the clinical and electromyographic examination of two M. siblings of male and female sexes have been analyzed. Possible mechanisms of the clinical polymorphism of childhood spinal amyotrophy are under discussion.
