PURPOSE: Intracranial chordomas and chondrosarcomas are histologically low-grade, locally invasive tumors that infiltrate the skull base. Currently, consensus therapy includes surgical resection and adjuvant radiotherapy. Radiation delivery is typically limited by the proximity of these tumors to critical skull base structures.

BACKGROUND: Parotidectomy in children is uncommon, and surgeons face specific challenges not encountered in adult practice.
METHOD: Retrospective review of parotidectomies performed in our paediatric hospital over a 10-year period (1999-2008).

BACKGROUND: Loss of the maxilla and midfacial bone buttresses after tumor resections can lead to severe functional and esthetic consequences. The loss of palate function may lead to oro-nasal communication, nasal speech, and oral intake difficulties. Several techniques have been proposed for maxillary defects reconstruction including prosthesis, locoregional flaps, or free flaps. Computed tomography (CT) has great potential for imaging intra- and extracapsular hard-tissue abnormality of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). CT is not the best method of imaging disk position and form. For differential diagnosis of TMJ disorders, CT is especially successful in bony lesions. The study includes 16 examples of TMJ hard-tissue abnormality. In the differential diagnosis of all cases, CT played a decisive role.
