Efficacy of Single-Session Intervention of Tinnitus Educational Counseling: A Systematic Review.

PURPOSE: This systematic review aims to evaluate the efficacy of single-session interventions of tinnitus educational counseling (SSI-TEDs) in the management of tinnitus. METHOD: A systematic literature search was conducted and reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Five studies met the inclusion criteria: three were two-arm randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and two employed a pretest-posttest design. Two studies compared SSI-TED with other interventions-neuro-music therapy (n = 1) and hypnosis (n = 1). One study included a …

A remote and avatar-based approach for social cognitive impairments in psychotic disorders: A Canadian adaptation of RC2S.

BACKGROUND: Social cognition is a core impairment in psychotic disorders and is strongly associated with functional outcomes. Although socia … ace (mean = 3.75/5). Motivation and therapeutic alliance remained high throughout the intervention (MUSIC>5.1;WAI > 4.3). Therapist support, perceived benefits, and remote accessibility were key facilitators. The largest exploratory pre-post changes occurred in therapist-administered goal attainment and functional impact measures. Findings from independ …

Effectiveness of a harmonica-integrated, tele-supervised home-based pulmonary rehabilitation program on lung function and comprehensive health outcomes in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: a randomized controlled trial protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Harmonica playing mimics pursed-lip breathing and strengthens respiratory muscles. Combined with music therapy, it may improve both pulmonary and mental health in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, though its effects are not well understood. This protocol outlines a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate the effectiveness of integrating harmonica playing into pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) programs. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This single-center, two-arm RCT will be conducted at a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou, China. A total of 248 adult patients (with a cl…

Gain of Function Presenting as Creative Skills in Patients with Progressive Cognitive Dysfunction and their fMRI Correlates: A Descriptive Study.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Patients with neurodegenerative disorders generally lose their acquired cognitive skills. However, a few of our p … sease progresses. Creative domain varies from person to person, and the longest preserved domain is music. The fMRI findings suggest that the enhanced areas may play a role in sustaining creativity even in patients with degenerative diseases. CONCLUSION: Although case reports of creative skills in patients with major cognitive disorders exist, a comple …

Evaluation of Safety and Acceptability of 40 Hz Amplitude-Modulated Auditory Stimulation in Healthy Older People: A Prospective Study from Japan.

Background/Objectives: Dysregulated gamma oscillations are associated with cognitive dysfunction. Auditory stimulation at 40 Hz enhances neural activity in brain regions associated with learning, attention, and memory. This study assessed the safety and acceptability of 40 Hz amplitude-modulated auditory stimulation in healthy older people. Auditory stimuli were created using popular songs, where vocals and background music were separated and independently amplitude-modulated at 40 Hz with different modulation depths to generate periodic 40 Hz gamma waveforms. Methods: In this open-label, sing…

Concerts, bars, parties, and raves: Differential risk for drug use among high school seniors according to venue attendance.

Background: Nightlife attendance is an established risk factor for drug use, but studies have not focused on adolescent general population samples or compared risk according to type(s) of venues attended. We examined whether attendance of various types of venues was associated with drug use. Methods: Data were examined from an annual nationally representative survey of high school seniors in the US (2014-2019, N = 11,565). We determined whether past-year attendance of parties, concerts, bars or nightclubs, and raves or dance music events was associated with past-year drug use using mixed-effec…

The moderating roles of a "growth mindset" and psychological flexibility on performance anxiety in violin learners.

BACKGROUND: Music performance anxiety (MPA), a common situational anxiety subtype, impairs motor execution and stress response in high-stakes violin learning, a context with rigorous technical and evaluative demands. This cross-sectional non-interventional human subject research strictly followed standardized ethical review protocols. OBJECTIVES: This study explored the correlations of growth mindset (GM, cognitive) and psychological flexibility (PF, emotional regulatory) with MPA, examining PF's moderating effect and gender differences in their anxiety-mitigating pathways. METHODS: A cross-…

Circadian instability following mass trauma predicts PTSD risk.

Trauma exposure can lead to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in a subset of vulnerable individuals. Circadian rhythm disturbances have emerged as a candidate pathway of vulnerability, yet mean circadian levels often show limited discriminability. We tested whether circadian instability at trauma aftermath prospectively predicts long-term PTSD risk, and what behavioral and physiological indices are most predictive. For that, 211 survivors of the Supernova music festival mass-trauma event and 113 matched comparison participants were monitored in real-world settings for one-month, two-to-six …
