PURPOSE: We investigated urothelial integrity, suburothelial inflammation and the expression of sensory proteins in the bladder urothelium of male patients with bladder outlet obstruction and various bladder dysfunctions.

Urachal carcinoma is a rare form of cancer. It often is diagnosed incidentally, like in our case report, because its cardinal symptom also occurs in a number of other urological diseases. We report the case of a 26-year-old man with a mucinous adenocarcinoma of the urachus. The carcinoma was removed via partial cystectomy with umbilical tumour excision.

OBJECTIVE: To report on a safe endoscopic management technique for the treatment of an anastomotic stricture (AS) in patients with an artificial urinary sphincter (AUS).
METHODS: Five patients with a history of salvage prostatectomy after radiation therapy that developed an AS after AUS placement were treated with a rigid ureteroscope and a Holmium YAG (Ho: YAG) laser to incise the AS. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of transabdominal wedge colpectomy as surgical treatment for cystocele. One hundred and sixty-three women with either first or second-degree cystocele (Beecham classification), rectocele and concomitant stress urinary incontinence or benign pelvic masses were submitted for a combined operation. The bladder and urethra can be the site of various types of foreign bodies. The authors report two cases of low urinary tract foreign bodies. The first case concerned a young man with psychiatric disorders who introduced a condom into his bladder and the second case was an elderly patient with a history of self-dilation who introduced a safety pin into his urethra. In the light of these two cases, the authors review the diagnostic features and management of bladder and urethral foreign bodies.

33 female patients with urinary incontinence underwent simplified percutaneous bladder neck suspension: 21 (67%) presented with stress incontinence, had had. The mean follow-up was 13.2 months (6 to 24 months). Overall, 70% of patients were improved or cures including 80% of cases of stress incontinence. These results need to be interpreted in relation to the characteristics of this population. This technique is rapid, easy to perform and is not associated with any serious complications. It warrants a place in the range of surgical treatments for female urinary incontinence.

Chronic prostatis is a common condition for which evidence of bacterial etiology is often lacking, possibly because of difficulty in obtaining secretion from the diseased portion of the gland. Aids to diagnosis apart from bacteriologic studies are of little value. It has been shown that trimethoprim reaches high levels in the prostatic fluid and when combined with sulfamethoxazole provides a highly effective antibacterial agent. In a survey of 40 patients with chronic prostatitis treated with TMP-SMX the usefulness of the combination was demonstrated.
