3D-Printed Dual-Lineage Inductive Approach for Efficient Osteochondral Regeneration.

Osteochondral defect regeneration is challenging due to the mismatch between cartilage and subchondral bone. We developed a functionalized scaffold replicating the natural architecture, biochemical and biomechanical environment of both tissues to promote concurrent regeneration. Our bilayered, zone-specific scaffold combines tailored materials for each tissue type: gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA), modified hyaluronic acid, and umbilical cord-derived extracellular matrix (ECM) for the cartilage layer; GelMA, placenta-derived ECM, and nano amorphous calcium phosphate for the osseous layer. Using 3D

Antibiotic-Loaded Polymer-Calcium Phosphate Scaffold for Treating Orthopedic Device-Related Infection in a Rabbit Segmental Bone Defect Model.

Treatment of orthopedic device-related infection (ORDI) generally requires a combination of medical and surgical interventions for successful treatment outcomes. Many cases are treated with a two-stage revision, whereby contaminated implants and necrotic tissues are removed, and dead space is managed with a temporary, non-resorbable polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) spacer loaded with antibiotics. Weeks later, this is replaced with a bone graft or similar material to aid bone healing. However, this two-stage approach is quite a burden for the patient, and infection may still recur. The use of a 3

The effects of fabrication methods and build orientation on Candida albicans adhesion on 3D-printed and conventional denture resin: an in vitro comparative study.

BACKGROUND: In dentistry, interest in computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) over traditional denture fabrication systems is increasing. However, few studies have compared the physiochemical and biological properties of different fabrication methods in regards to Candida albicans. C. albicans is the most common oral fungal pathogen, often related to dentures and elderly patients. Although various factors have been reported to influence C. albicans proliferation, conclusive evidence is lacking. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate and compare the physicoche

Customized 3D-printed Poly ether ether ketone cranial implant for cranioplasty of skull defects.

Cranioplasty become one of the common surgeries in the neurosurgical field. The complex configuration of the cranium makes the bone reconstruction of the skull defects a challenging procedure. While the patient's own bone flap is the best option, other materials such as titanium and Poly ether ether Ketone (PEEK) were used for cranioplasty when the autogenous flap of the patient is unavailable. Recently, customized 3D printing implants were developed for cranioplasty with favorable outcomes. In this study, we evaluated the outcome of customized 3-dimentional (3D)-printed PEEK implant craniopla

Impact of implant scan body material and angulation on the trueness and precision of digital implant impressions using four intraoral scanners-an in vitro study.

BACKGROUND: Intraoral scanners (IOS) offer advantages in implant dentistry, but accuracy depends on factors including implant scan body (ISB) material and implant angulation. Conflicting evidence exists on the performance of Titanium (Ti) versus PEEK ISBs, especially with angulated implants. This study aimed to evaluate the combined effect of ISB material (PEEK vs. Ti) and implant angulation (0° vs. 30°) on the trueness and precision of digital impressions obtained from four different IOSs. METHODS: A 3D-printed edentulous maxillary model with four implants (two parallel 0°, two angled 30°).

Development of 3D-printed Ti-MXene incorporated chitosan/HAP nano-composite soft-bone scaffold and its mechanical, anti-biofilm and cell-viability studies.

The prevailing scientific literature suggests that implantable plates demand resurgery, and it will result in corrosion behaviour and the formation of biofilm on the scaffold by Staphylococcus aureus, which is capable of causing a bone surgery-related detrimental effect in two-thirds of the people suffering from osteomyelitis diseases. The development of a nanocomposite scaffold by 3D-bioprinting to improve potent mechanical features with substantial biological characteristics. By incorporating hydroxyapatite (10% w/v) into chitosan (10% w/v) at 1:1 ratio mimicking the natural structure of sof

Optimizing topical delivery to the ostiomeatal complex after functional endoscopic sinus surgery using a bidirectional delivery method.

Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) remains a therapeutic challenge due to frequent recurrence after surgery, largely stemming from inadequate drug delivery to the posterior nasal mucosa, particularly the ostiomeatal complex (OMC). While aerosol dynamics are known to influence intranasal drug deposition, quantitatively assessing deposition patterns within complex nasal anatomies is difficult. This study employed a bidirectional delivery approach using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations based on patient-specific sinonasal cavity models, incorporating realistic polydisp

Bioinspired poly-dopamine/nano-hydroxyapatite: an upgrading biocompatible coat for 3D-printed polylactic acid scaffold for bone regeneration.

Poly-lactic acid (PLA) has been proposed in dentistry for several regenerative procedures owing to its biocompatibility and biodegradability. However, the presence of methyl groups renders PLA hydrophobic, making the surface less ideal for cell attachment, and it does not promote tissue regeneration. Upgrading PLA with inductive biomaterial is a crucial step to increase the bioactivity of the PLA and allow cellular adhesion. Our purpose is to evaluate biocompatibility, bioactivity, cellular adhesion, and mechanical properties of 3D-printed PLA scaffold coated with poly-dopamine (PDA) and nano-
