After thorough biological, epidemiological and clinical analysis as well as diagnosis and therapy of neurocysticercosis, the Authors describe a case they have encountered. Given the increase in the emigration rate from developing countries, the epidemiological nature of this case indicates that brain parasitosis due to helminths requires more attention. As seen in the last 20 years in the United States, these pathologies might increase significantly in Italy in the near future.

UNLABELLED: A WIDESPREAD DISEASE: Significant progress in screening for alveolar echinococcosis has reduced the number of new cases observed in Europe. Health education and serodetection campaigns have allowed earlier diagnosis and more effective treatment. The disease cannot however be totally eradicated due to the widespread wild reservoirs, sometimes even in the center of large cities.
THERAPEUTICS: Early diagnosed and treatment can inhibit the inevitable progression observed after clinical manifestations appear. Drugs can block disease progression and surgical excision can be most effecti

An experiment was carried out in white mice by intra-abdominal injection of protoscolices. A chemoprophylaxis of the secondary abdominal echinococcosis was practised by means of Mebendazole (Vermox) in a dosage of 50 mg/kg body weight daily for 90 days. The chemoprophylaxis started on the twentieth day after the infection. Three animal groups were divided: group 1--peroral application of the drug, group 2--injection of the drug, group 3--control group. The autopsy of the mice were carried out one month after the end of the chemoprophylaxis. An echinococcosis was diagnosable only in the control

INTRODUCTION: Earthen floors are often damp or dusty and difficult to clean, providing an ideal environment for faecal pathogens and parasit … duction meeting. Following baseline assessments in both groups, all individuals over 1 year receive albendazole and those infected with tungiasis receive benzyl benzoate. Primary outcomes are as follows: prevalence of enteric infections in children under 5 years assessed via stool surveys and PCR; prevalence of tungiasis infection in children 1-14 years based …

BACKGROUND: Our aim was to study long-term clinical and radiologic outcome in children with parenchymal neurocysticercosis (NCC) and its predictors.
METHOD: Five hundred children with NCC registered in the pediatric NCC clinic between January 1996 and December 2002 and followed till December 2009 were enrolled. Demographic details, clinical presentations and therapy received were recorded. Outcome was evaluated in terms of seizure recurrence and resolution of lesions on neuroimaging. Various factors that could influence outcome were studied.
RESULTS: Mean age at presentation was 8 ± 2.7 year

We present the case of a patient diagnosed in our clinic with pulmonary hydatid cyst, the discovery being incidental, during the investigations for a febrile syndrome accompanied by cough and thoracic pain. Pulmonary Hydatidosis is a disease caused by the location and growing inside the lungs of larval form of Taenia echinococcus granulosus, the way of infection is digestive. Hydatid cyst is a rare pathology, the incidence is higher in some populations related to professions such as sheep or goat raising. Pulmonary cyst diagnosis is made by imagistic methods (chest x-ray, CT, MRI) and bio-umor

Although the most involved organs are liver and lung, hydatid cysts occur in adrenal glands, rarely, and constitute only 0.5% of hydatid cysts. Herein, we demonstrate and discuss, for the first time in the literature to the best of our knowledge, the radiological features of adrenal hydatid disease and evaluate the long-term results (57 months of follow-up) of the percutaneous treatment of hydatid cyst in the adrenal gland in a patient.

Ecuador is considered a holoendemic high-risk area for the transmission of cysticercosis. Moreover, the progression of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) occurs worldwide. We present a case of simultaneous diagnosis of cysticercosis and HIV infection in a 22-year-old Ecuadorian immigrant. We would postulate that with the increasing HIV incidence in endemic areas of cysticercosis, the simultaneous diagnosis of both diseases is an event to be expected.

This English review concerning the current status of cysticercosis in Vietnam has been compiled from various reports of studies conducted ov … include subcutaneous nodules, epileptic seizures, severe headache, impaired vision and memory loss. Albendazole has been found to be the best drug for treating cysticercosis though it does not appear to be totally effective for curing cerebral cysts. Information concerning porcine and bovine cysticercosis is very limited and based mostly on passive surveillan …

Hydatid disease, still frequent in endemic areas, is usually localized in the liver. Despite the benign nature of the disease it is one of the problematic fields of surgery due to the high complication rate and long hospital stay. Based on our experience we recommend evacuation of the cyst and omentoplasty as the surgical method of choice, as it is associated with a relatively low incidence of complications and can be performed easily.
