Anti-Lung Cancer Agent Discovery and Development: A Review of Cross-Platform Correlation Across in silico, Network Pharmacology, in vitro, and in vivo Assessments.

Lung cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related mortality worldwide, highlighting the urgent need for more effective and clinically translatable therapeutic agents. In recent years, drug discovery strategies integrating computational modeling with experimental validation have gained increasing attention; however, their predictive consistency across biological scales remains a critical challenge. This review systematically synthesises evidence from eleven primary studies that evaluated anti-lung cancer agents across computational, cellular, and organism-level platforms within a

Atypical contributions of reward decisions to momentary mood in individuals with methamphetamine use disorder.

BACKGROUND: Individuals with Methamphetamine use disorder (MUD) are often accompanied by severe mood dysregulation, leading to more frequent irrational decisions such as drug-seeking behavior. Existing research indicates that the impairment of the reward system is central to the development of addiction. However, it remains unclear how the abnormal reward processing affects the mood regulation abilities of individuals with MUD. In this study, we explored the cognitive and computational mechanisms through which the subjective mood of individuals with MUD is influenced by reward information duri

Is There a Relationship Between Stress in Walls of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm and Symptoms?

BACKGROUND: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a permanent and irreversible dilation of the lower region of the aorta. It is typically an asymptomatic condition that if left untreated can expand to the point of rupture. In simple mechanical terms, rupture of an artery occurs when the local wall stress exceeds the local wall strength. It is therefore understandable that numerous studies have attempted to estimate the AAA wall stress and investigate the relationship between the AAA wall stress and AAA symptoms. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted computational biomechanics analysis for 19 patie

An intranet-based system for quality assurance in surgery.

Quality assurance in surgery relies on precise medical records about surgical procedures and outcomes. Data quality is crucial for statistical evaluation; missing values cannot be avoided but must be minimized. The quality assurance system must be accessible from many locations within the clinic; given the complex and heterogeneous computing infrastructure this is a technological challenge. Intranet-technology--the application of internet-tools in local networks--can help to solve the technical problems. We designed, implemented and evaluated a generic Intranet-based quality assurance system i

Brain-inspired recurrent spiking neural networks for multiscale dynamic representation with manifolds.

Understanding how network structure shapes neural population dynamics and representation of external inputs is a key issue in neuroscience. This study proposes a modeling framework for recurrent spiking neural networks (RSNN) and elucidates dynamical computation mechanism of RSNN by linking input dimensionality, network structure and dynamic representation. Inspired by biological neural systems, the RSNN leverages the low-rank connectivity and small-world topology for robust dynamics and efficient computation. The proposed framework is applied in behavior and recognition tasks with multiscale

Reconfigurable Analog Computing Metasurfaces Based on Thin Film Lithium Niobate.

Analog computing metasurface offers significant advantages, including ultrafast computation, low power consumption, and parallel processing of data, thereby presenting a promising pathway toward the realization of a compact and integrated ultrafast all-optical information processing system. However, existing designs can only toggle between computing and noncomputing modes, falling short of achieving truly reconfigurable analog computing function. In this work, a reconfigurable transmission-type analog computing metasurface based on the electro-optic material thin film lithium niobate is demons

A voxel-based approach for simulating microbial decomposition in soil: Comparison with LBM and improvement of morphological models.

This paper deals with the computational modeling of biological dynamics in soil using an exact micro-scale pore space description from 3D Computed Tomography (CT) images. Within this context, computational costs and storage requirements constitute critical factors for running simulations on large datasets over extended periods. In this research, we represent the pore space by a graph of voxels (Voxel Graph-Based Approach, VGA) and model transport in fully saturated conditions (two-phase system) using Fick's law and coupled diffusion with biodegradation processes to simulate microbial decomposi

Repetition of Computer Security Warnings Results in Differential Repetition Suppression Effects as Revealed With Functional MRI.

Computer users are often the last line of defense in computer security. However, with repeated exposures to system messages and computer security warnings, neural and behavioral responses show evidence of habituation. Habituation has been demonstrated at a neural level as repetition suppression where responses are attenuated with subsequent repetitions. In the brain, repetition suppression to visual stimuli has been demonstrated in multiple cortical areas, including the occipital lobe and medial temporal lobe. Prior research into the repetition suppression effect has generally focused on a sin

Three-dimensional simulation and prediction of craniofacial surgery.

The treatment of patients with complex facial deformities is one of the most challenging multidisciplinary tasks in plastic surgery. Due to advancements in medical technology and surgical techniques in the last 20 years correction of severe malformations has become possible and is performed by highly specialized teams frequently in a single operation. Recent developments in three-dimensional (3-D) imaging techniques have already greatly facilitated diagnosis of complex craniofacial deformities. Computer-based simulation methods for surgical procedures that are based on imaging data have the po

The analysis of pharmaceuticals by combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. I. The analysis of a medicated aerosol spray.

A medicated aerosol product was qualitatively analyzed by combined gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The data were processed by a minicomputer. Ten of the 11 peaks in the gas chromatogram were identified with the assistance of the National Institutes of Health/Division of Computer Research and Technology/Chemical Information System mass spectral search system. The unidentified peak is probably a member of the terpene class. The aerosol propellants were also partially analyzed by infrared spectrophotometry.

Spontaneous pneumoperitoneum in the absence of visceral perforation in a patient with systemic sclerosis: a case report.

We present the case of a 44 year old woman with systemic sclerosis who presented with intense abdominal pain without signs of peritonitis. An abdominal computed tomography showed generalized intestinal dilation, intestinal pneumatosis and an extensive pneumoperitoneum. A diagnostic laparoscopy was performed but no perforation nor gastrointestinal leakage were found. Spontaneous pneumoperitoneum in patients with systemic sclerosis without visceral perforation is an extremely rare complication. Physicians must have a low threshold of suspicion for this entity when a patient with systemic scleros

Successful Removal of a Foreign Body Located in the Peripheral Airway Using Flexible Bronchoscopy with Virtual Bronchoscopy Navigation.

A case in which a foreign body located in the peripheral airway of the lung was removed by flexible bronchoscopy using a virtual bronchoscopy navigation (VBN) system has been reported. The patient was a 60-year-old man. Chest radiography revealed an incidental foreign body in the left lower lung. Chest computed tomography with 1.0-mm slices was used to create a VBN system and confirm the foreign body in left B9biiαy, which was removed by flexible bronchoscopy. Thus, peripheral foreign bodies can be safely removed using flexible bronchoscopy by creating a VBN system in advance.

Systemic sarcoidosis with significant granulomatous swelling of the pharyngeal tonsil.

A pharyngeal tonsil biopsy specimen from a 27-year-old male revealed epithelioid cell granulomas with noncaseating necrosis. Systemic enlargement of the lymph nodes was present. Plain chest radiographic and computed tomography (CT) images showed ground-glass attenuation in the lungs and bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy. Biopsy of inguinal region nodes confirmed the diagnosis of systemic sarcoidosis. Detailed examination of the nasopharynx should be performed in any case presenting with systemic sarcoidosis because the specimen is readily removable and the pathologic findings of the local lesion

Application of computer-controlled, real-time TV single-object tracking in behavioural biology and rehabilitation medicine.

A PC-based system with TV input for automatic tracking of a single and contrast object in 2D in a homogeneous and stationary environment has been developed and applied to Morris water maze experiments. Further development of the system aimed at broader support of experiments, reduction of requirements on the stationarity and homogeneity of the scene background and on multiple-object tracking is discussed. The computer control of active light markers of the tracked object applicable to multiple-objects tracking in a time-sharing regime is also mentioned in the conclusion. The latter extension o
