Endoscopic correction of vesico-ureteric reflux by subureteric Teflon injection: follow-up ultrasound and voiding cystography.

The technique of subureteric Teflon injection for the correction of vesico-ureteric reflux was first described by Puri and O'Donnell in 1984. The Teflon granuloma that occurs after the injection anchors the submucosal ureter, thereby preventing reflux. This paper reviews the ultrasound and cystographic findings in 88 patients with 115 refluxing ureters followed-up for periods ranging from 3 months to 3 years. Reflux disappeared in 91 ureters (79.1%) and the degree of reflux improved in 22 ureters (19.1%). In this follow-up study, the size of the granuloma on ultrasound was assessed in relation

Operative injury to the lower urinary tract.

Operative injury to the lower urinary tract is extremely common. Most of these injuries occur during the course of gynecologic surgery and involve the bladder. Urethral injury is most commonly found following urethral diverticulectomy or with urologic endoscopic procedures. Correction of specific injuries to the bladder and urethra are discussed.

Genito-urinary tuberculosis--a local experience on its diagnosis and management.

Though the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis has been on the decline, the incidence of genito-urinary tuberculosis has not decreased proportionately as the majority of patients have no associated pulmonary tuberculosis. Genito-urinary tuberculosis affects male and female equally and is commonest in the 4th decade of life. The most frequent presentation is that of persistent urinary tract infection in 2/3 of patients and gross haematuria in about 1/3 of our patients. A few may be relatively asymptomatic with loin ache. Though urine culture for acid-fast bacilli is important, diagnosis in most

Extending cystoscopic techniques into the ureter and renal pelvis. Experience with ureteroscopy and pyeloscopy.

The availability of extended-length, small-caliber endoscopes allows the use of many cystoscopic techniques in the ureter and renal pelvis. Although the instruments are rigid, they can be passed transurethrally in both male and female patients to allow the urologist to diagnose and treat many lesions of the upper urinary tract. The success of our series demonstrates the utility and safety of the technique, which often eliminates the need for surgical exposure of the lesions.

Bladder papilloma: therapeutic and cost effect of outpatient department management.

Management of patients with benign papilloma of the bladder was reviewed for the calendar year 1979. Thirty-six patients (average age sixty-six years) were cystoscoped 113 times with 77 fulgurations. Over-all follow-up of these 36 patients averaged 8.2 years with a range of one to thirty-five years. In 5 patients (13.4 per cent) progressive disease developed: 1 invasive tumor requiring cystectomy, 2 Stage A lesions treated by transurethral resection, and 2 bilateral ureteral and renal pelvic papillomatosis with local bladder control. The average outpatient department (OPD) cost per patient in

[AQUABLATION OF THE PROSTATE - A NOVEL ROBOTIC PROCEDURE FOR THE TREATMENT OF BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA].

INTRODUCTION: Aquablation of the prostate is a novel robotic-assisted procedure that uses a powerful ultrasound and cystoscopic guided water jet for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). AIMS: To assess the efficiency and safety of the Aquablation procedure for the treatment of BPH among patients treated in our institution. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of the first 50 cases was performed in our institution between 10/2022 and 05/2023. We gathered demographic information, surgical and post-surgical course, and office follow-up 1,3 and 6 months after surgery, including the

Clinical Relevance of Bladder Histopathological Findings and Their Impact on Treatment Outcomes among Patients with Interstitial Cystitis/Bladder Pain Syndrome: An Investigation of the European Society for the Study of Interstitial Cystitis Histopathological Classification.

PURPOSE: We investigate the clinical significance of European Society for the Study of Interstitial Cystitis (ESSIC) bladder histopathological classification and its impact on treatment outcomes among patients with interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Bladder biopsy specimens obtained from severe, treatment refractory interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome cases were analyzed by a single pathologist blinded to clinical data. Inflammatory cell infiltration and urothelium denudation, eosinophil infiltration, plasma cell infiltration, lamina propria hemorrhage

Cystoscopic transurethral incision in simplex and duplex ureteroceles-is it the definitive procedure?

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of primary cystoscopic transurethral incision (CTUI) in the management of paediatric ureteroceles. The secondary aim is to compare the efficacy of CTUI between simplex and duplex systems. PATIENTS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective review of consecutive paediatric patients requiring surgical intervention for ureterocele. Data collected for analysis included demographics, diagnostic, pre-operative investigations, operative interventions and postoperative variables. RESULTS: Over a 19-year period, 79 consecutive cases were identifi

Schistosoma haematobium causing pulmonary schistosomiasis in a returning traveller.

Schistosomiasis is infrequently seen in the UK, but remains an important cause of haematuria in endemic areas. It may also be complicated by systemic illness, and can affect multiple organs, including the bladder, liver and lungs. We discuss a case of haematuria associated with lower abdominal discomfort and dry cough/wheeze in a returning traveller diagnosed as pulmonary and urinary schistosomiasis, caused by Schistosomahaematobium This case was particularly notable for the radiological findings seen on CT scan of the chest (figure 2A,B), as well as the characteristic sago nodules discovered

Randomized clinical trial between polyacrylate-polyalcohol copolymer (PPC) and dextranomer-hyaluronic acid copolymer (Dx/HA) as bulking agents for endoscopic treatment of primary vesicoureteral reflux (VUR).

OBJECTIVE: To compare the radiological and clinical outcomes of endoscopic treatment of primary VUR using polyacrylate-polyalcohol copolymer (PPC-Vantris®) or dextranomer-hyaluronic acid copolymer (Dx/HA-Deflux®). MATERIALS AND METHODS: From October 2014 to April 2017, patients with primary VUR grade III to V that needed endoscopic treatment (ET) were eligible for this randomized clinical trial. We excluded toilet-trained patients with lower urinary tract symptoms. Patients were randomized and allocated into two groups: PPC group and Dx/HA group. After endoscopic treatment a voiding cystouret
