Intramuscular chrysotherapy is a well-established treatment for rheumatoid arthritis. Its therapeutic use has been limited by the high incidence of dermatological side-effects. A pregnant woman was diagnosed with central nervous system toxoplasmosis and human immunodeficiency virus infection. Diagnosis was made by evaluating computed tomography scan results and toxoplasma antibody titers. The patient was treated with pyrimethamine and sulfadiazine, with an excellent fetal outcome. She responded well to this regimen but developed a delayed exanthematous hypersensitivity reaction. Treatment with a substitute regimen resulted in a recurrence of symptoms, leaving undesirable neurologic deficits.

BACKGROUND: Systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA) has many clinical features overlapping with familial Mediterranean fever (FMF), which is caused by mutations in MEFV gene. And FMF patients were easily misdiagnosed as sJIA in China. So we speculate that MEFV is critical genetic background for sJIA and influences patients' severity. INTRODUCTION AND METHODS: Hepatitis B is a vaccine preventable disease and is notifiable in South Africa. Hepatitis B vaccination was incorporated into the Expanded Programme on Immunisation in South Africa in 1995. We used a convenience sample from community-based febrile rash surveillance in 2013 to estimate hepatitis B sero-prevalence. Of samples serologically negative for acute measles infection, 450 samples spanning nine provinces of South Africa were tested for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) and hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc).
