To evaluate the utility of echo-Doppler (ED; PW, CW and color), 67 patients affected by pure mitral stenosis (20 M, 47 F, mean age 52 years) were submitted to ED examination. Right and left cardiac catheterization were performed in 20 patients within 24 hours before ED. Mitral area obtained by Doppler method (Hatle's formula) correlated highly with both echo-2 dimensional and hemodynamic area (r = 0.93, p less than 0.001; r = 0.95, p less than 0.001 respectively). Atrioventricular nodal reentry tachycardia (AVNRT) is a common form of paroxysmal supraventricular tachyarrhythmia. In this tachycardia, the atrium and ventricle are not necessary links of the reentry circuit, so that the arrhythmia may persist in spite of the occurrence of 2:1 AV ratio or AV dissociation. In patients with sinus node disease (SND) the VVI pacing seems an inappropriate mode of cardiac stimulation because of its potential hemodynamic and arrhythmic adverse effects. Forty-five patients with a first anterior myocardial infarction were studied by serial two-dimensional echocardiographic examinations to evaluate the incidence, short-term evolution and clinical significance of infarct expansion. Infarct expansion was found in 26 patients (58%); in 22 cases it was detected at the first examination 24 hours after the onset of symptoms, while in the other 4 it developed later. We report on a 25-year-old man, referred for atypical chest pain and negative T waves in leads V5-V6. A cardiac tumor, localized in the posterolateral left ventricular wall was diagnosed in this patient by nuclear techniques and bidimensional echocardiography. A complex form of pluridistrectual dysmorphic disorder (hypertelorism, prognathism, frontal bossing, multiple cysts of the mandible, calcification in falx cerebri, etc) was also present, suggesting a limited form of Gorlin's syndrome (nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome).

Intravenous flecainide (2 mg/Kg for 15 min) was used in 30 patients (18 men and 12 women aged 23 to 85 years: mean 62) with recent or paroxysmal atrial fibrillation: 5 patients returned to sinus rhythm during flecainide administration while other 23 patients did it not later than 2 hours. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the efficacy and follow-up results of balloon dilation angioplasty for valvular pulmonary stenosis.
