Pulmonary Aspergillosis Complicated by Recurrent Pneumothorax in a Healthy Nigerian Adolescent at Cedar Crest Hospital, Abuja - A Diagnostic Conundrum (Case Report).

Pulmonary Aspergillosis and recurrent pneumothorax are rare paediatrics conditions posing a diagnostic difficulty when presenting together in a patient. We report the case of a male Nigerian adolescent presenting with features of community acquired pneumonia (CAP) and recurrent pneumothoraces. He had several courses of empirical antibiotics indicated for CAP with partial evidence of improvement and underwater seal drainage chest tube, for the pneumothorax severally. The pneumothorax resolved after each course of antibiotics but re-occurred after removal of closed tube thoracotomy drainage (CTT

An association of VDR gene polymorphism in hypovitaminosis D mediated secondary hyperparathyroidism in adolescent girls; a tertiary hospital study in central India.

Vitamin D is required to maintain normal serum calcium and phosphate levels that help normal bone mineralization, nerve conduction, muscle contraction, immune function, cell proliferation, and differentiation. Interventions including vitamin D supplementation may not improve vitamin D deficiency, as various complex genomic actions could contribute to vitamin D deficiency in the Indian population. Thus, we assessed hypovitaminosis D's relationship with vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism and evaluated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels in seemingly healthy adolescent school-going girls. We

Perceptions of information and participation in child and adolescent mental health care: a comparison of patient and caregiver reports across inpatient and day hospital settings.

BACKGROUND: In child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), the principles of information provision and participatory decision-making have gained prominence, reflecting both legal mandates and ethical standards. Within the last few years, the number of day hospital treatment programs has increased and political decisions led to a reduction in inpatient beds. Given the structural and procedural differences between the treatment settings, this study examines whether patients' and caregivers' ratings of information and participation differ between an inpatient treatment and a day hospital

Universal substance use care for adolescents with chronic medical conditions: a protocol to examine equitable implementation determinants and strategies for SBIRT at a pediatric hospital.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents with chronic medical conditions (CMC) use alcohol and marijuana at levels equal to or even greater than their peers without CMC and are more likely to initiate substance use at 14 years or younger. Approximately 33% of adolescents with CMC binge drink alcohol and 20% use marijuana. When using substances, adolescents with CMC are at elevated risk for problem use and adverse consequences given their medical conditions. Although there has recently been progress integrating substance use services into adult hospitals, there has been almost no implementation of standardized
