From Theory to Competence: A Conceptual Review of Humanized Care in Community Nursing in the Ecuadorian Context.

Community nursing in Latin America requires a shift from control-oriented biomedical models toward relational and culturally responsive approaches capable of addressing persistent structural inequalities and intercultural complexity. This review develops the Relate-Capacity-Comfort (RCC) framework. This integrated model synthesizes three foundational nursing theories: Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring, Dorothea Orem's Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory, and Katharine Kolcaba's Comfort Theory. The framework conceptualizes community nursing as a sequential process comprising relational engageme

Supraventricular tachycardia in the pediatric primary care setting: Age-related presentation, diagnosis, and management.

As many as 1 in 250 children experience supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), but its presentation is often vague and its symptoms mistakenly attributed to other common pediatric conditions. If SVT is correctly identified in a timely manner, most children will go on to live normal healthy lives. SVT is not covered in depth in most pediatric advanced practice nursing programs, but because of its prevalence, it should be familiar to all pediatric primary care providers. This article reviews common mechanisms of SVT and their age-related presentation, diagnosis, and management. A case study of an 8

Integrating Clinical and Systems Reasoning Through a Cross-Track Case in DNP Education.

BACKGROUND: Medication-related harm in older adults often reflects cumulative system vulnerabilities rather than isolated prescribing errors. Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs emphasize systems-based practice; however, strategies integrating specialty expertise with shared accountability remain limited. METHOD: A cross-track unfolding case was implemented during a required 2-day DNP immersion at a large academic institution. Advanced practice and systems leadership learners engaged sequential phases of a longitudinal medication-related harm case across out-patient and acute contexts.

The complementary effects of virtual reality and traditional simulation in nursing education: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Simulation-based education plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between nursing theory and clinical practice. Although traditional scenario-based simulation is effective in enhancing clinical skills, it is often limited by its lack of situational fidelity. Conversely, virtual reality (VR) simulation provides highly immersive learning environments but is challenged by its inability to support genuine interpersonal interactions. There is a paucity of empirical evidence regarding the integration of the complementary strengths of these two modalities and the understanding of nursin

Digital advance care planning education in nursing home placements: a qualitative descriptive study of nursing students' experiences.

BACKGROUND: Advance care planning (ACP) is a core component of high-quality palliative and end-of-life care, particularly in nursing homes where residents commonly experience frailty, multimorbidity and cognitive impairment. Although digital ACP education has shown promise for qualified staff, limited qualitative evidence has examined how undergraduate nursing students experience such learning during clinical placement. This study explored first-year nursing students' experiences of using an online e-resource during nursing home placements exploring its acceptability, perceived influence on kn

Nurse-Led Home-Based Mobile Health Cardiac Rehabilitation Program for Patients With Chronic Heart Failure: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

This 12-week randomized controlled trial evaluated a nurse-led mHealth intervention for patients with chronic heart failure, conceptually informed by Riegel's middle-range theory of self-care of chronic illness. The program integrated wearable activity tracking with weekly nurse-led behavioral coaching, reflecting the core self-care processes of monitoring, maintenance, and management. Compared with usual care, the intervention significantly improved daily step count, 6-minute walk distance, metabolic equivalents, and left ventricular ejection fraction. Findings highlight the effectiveness of

The Role of Nurses in the Management of Adverse Events in Patients Receiving First-Line Axitinib Plus Immuno-Oncology Agents for Advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma.

OBJECTIVES: The recent approval of first-line tyrosine kinase inhibitor plus immuno-oncology agent combination therapy for the treatment of advanced renal cell carcinoma offers substantially improved response rates and survival compared with the previous standard of care. This expansion of treatment options has also led to a greater range and complexity of potential treatment-related adverse events related to overlapping toxicities. The aim of this article is to discuss the management of common treatment-emergent adverse events (AEs) associated with axitinib plus immuno-oncology therapy, highl

The impact of a glaucoma nurse specialist role on glaucoma waiting lists.

Over the last two decades there has been an increasing demand on health care services. This has led to increased waiting lists and waiting times to access public hospital services. In ophthalmic practice an aging population and technological advances have been major contributors to this situation. The challenge for health care providers is how to manage waiting lists within the resources provided and targets set by Elective Services, a department of the Ministry of Health (MoH). The Ministerial Taskforce on Nursing (1998) highlighted that nurses are an underutilised resource. Subsequent to the

Upstream nurse-community partnership strategies to improve social determinants of health: A scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Nurses are vital in improving the social determinants of health (SDOH) through community partnerships. While individual-level SDOH interventions are well studied, less is known about nursing strategies that support systemic, community-based change. PURPOSE: To examine the scope, characteristics, and gaps in the literature on nurse-community partnership strategies to address SDOH. METHODS: A scoping review was conducted using PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus, Academic Search Premier, and SocINDEX. The search identified 20 records describing nursing strategies implemented with community part

Why Living with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Requires a Holistic Approach: A Patient and Clinician Perspective.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a rare disease caused by high pressure in the blood vessels leading from the heart to the lung. PAH affects many parts of a patient's life, which means that patients should be managed by a clinical team of different specialists, including doctors, advance practice providers, nurses, social workers, and therapists. This article is co-authored by a patient living with PAH and an acute care nurse practitioner specializing in the management of patients with pulmonary hypertension. In the first section of this commentary, the patient describes her experience

Randomized clinical trials: role of the research nurse.

Randomised clinical trials have transformed nephrology, driving major advances in the management of chronic kidney disease. Their success, however, depends not only on robust methodology but also on the professionals who deliver the protocols. This study aims to describe and critically discuss the role of the research nurse in randomized clinical trials in nephrology, highlighting their contribution to trial conduct, data quality, and patient engagement. Research nurses now play a critical and increasingly recognised role at the interface of science, clinical care and patient experience. Their

An early intervention plan for identification and control of chronic lower extremity edema.

Chronic lower extremity edema is one of the most common medical problems; every second person has the problem, and every eighth has advanced problems that require treatment.(1) Treatment interventions for wounded patients and prevention plans to prevent recurrence abound in the literature. However only one reference could be found that identified the need to intervene before wounding occurs, and no plan for intervention was proposed. The purpose of this article is to present a plan for early intervention designed to identify and prevent disease progression for patients who suffer from chronic

Case studies 1-3: leg ulcers.

Case studies are presented here by a tissue viability nurse consultant and an advanced podiatrist demonstrating the use of ChloraSolv in clinical practice. The first set of cases is from a community setting, where the tissue viability nurse and district nurse successfully used the product to fully debride hard-to-heal leg ulcers in patients who mostly had been unable to tolerate other forms of debridement. The second set illustrates its use in a podiatry clinic, where the gel removed dry, adherent slough. 'These case studies show that ChloraSolv can be used by any health professional to achiev
