PURPOSE: To analyze the association of genetic variation within the tumor necrosis factor (TNF -308 [G-->A]) and lymphotoxin alfa (LT-a +252 [A-->G]) genes with outcome in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of childhood and adolescence.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Genotyping of the TNF -308 (G-->A) and LT-a +252 (A-->G) polymorphisms in patients (n = 488) enrolled onto the German-Austrian-Swiss multicenter trial NHL-BFM 95 from April 1996 to January 2000 was performed by polymerase chain reaction with subsequent restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis on DNA from tumor-free specimen.

GOALS OF WORK: Quality of life (Qol) represents a relevant end point in the clinical management of advanced ovarian cancer (AOC). It is unclear how best to treat children with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) who are in a second remission. In the period between 1.1.1974 and 31.12.1978 phage typing of 2058 strains of S. typhi and 1672 strains of S. paratyphi-B was carried out. 45 S. typhi phage types were found, 11 of these occurred in a frequency of more than 1% (relevant to foci). These were E1 a (21.6%), A (17.7%), F1 (5.8%), D1 (5.5%), C1 (4.6%), E1b (4.1%), D2 (2.5%), 40 (1.5%), 29 (1.3%), B2 (1.0%), 46 (1.0%). Following the first detection of monkeypox virus (MPXV) clade Ib in Berlin, Germany, in December 2025, clade Ib rapidly predominated over clade IIb among notified mpox cases. The 35 clade Ib cases were primarily due to autochthonous transmission, with high genetic relatedness among strains circulating in men in Berlin, despite no identified epidemiological links. Sexual contact between men was reported as a potential source of infection in 28 cases, while for the remaining seven cases this information was unknown.

Since 14 November 2016, 38 cases of hepatitis A have been notified in Berlin; of these, 37 were male and 30 reported to have sex with men (MSM). Median age of MSM cases is 31 years (range: 24-52 years). Phylogenetic analysis revealed three distinct sequences, linking cases in Berlin to those in other German cities and to clusters recognised in other European countries in 2016.

Recently, studies in adults with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) showed high cure rates in low-risk patients treated with all-trans retinoid acid (ATRA) and arsenic trioxide (ATO), while toxicities were significantly reduced compared to the standard treatment with ATRA and chemotherapy.
