Greater trochanter bursitis pain syndrome in females with chronic low back pain and sciatica.

Trochanteric bursitis is a clinical condition which simulates major hip diseases and low back pain, it may also mimic nerve root pressure syndrome. Patients with greater trochanteric bursitis pain syndrome (GTBPS) usually suffer from pain radiating to the posterolateral aspect of the thigh, paraesthesiae in the legs, and tenderness over the iliotibial tract.. The purpose of this study is to indicate the similarity between the clinical features of the GTBPS and those of chronic low back pain, and to highlight the importance of diagnosing GTBPS in patients complaining of low back conditions. Ultrasonographic evaluation of pes anserinus tendino-bursitis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

OBJECTIVE: To assess musculoskeletal ultrasonographic (US) findings in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) with and without pes anserinus (PA) tendinitis or bursitis syndrome; and to determine possible etiologic factors such as systemic diabetic microvascular disease complications in these patients. METHODS: The knee joints were examined with an ultrasound real-time scanner using a 10 MHz electronic linear transducer in 48 patients with type 2 DM and 25 controls. The presence of systemic diabetic microvascular disease complications was evaluated. RESULTS: On examination 23 (23.9%) kn

"All-Endoscopic" Management of Refractory Elbow Bicipitoradial Bursitis and Partial Distal Biceps Tendon Tears.

Elbow bicipitoradial bursitis and partial distal biceps tendon (DBT) tears are a result of chronic overuse or other infective/inflammatory pathology and may be refractory to conservative treatment. The all-endoscopic approach provides minimally invasive access to the bursal space and DBT, and diagnostic and therapeutic procedures can be performed under direct endoscopic vision. The technique uses 2 portals, the proximal parabiceps portal and distal anterior portal, and the bursa is insufflated to create a working space. Tissue biopsies are obtained under direct endoscopic visualization, and de

Compressive Ulnar Neuropathy Caused by Olecranon Bursitis and Concomitant Epidermal Cyst: A Case Report.

Epidermal cyst is a dermal or subcutaneous epithelial cyst that contains keratin and is lined by true epidermis. Although extremely rare, it can cause pathology including nerve compression syndrome. We report a rare case of ulnar nerve compression in the elbow that was caused by olecranon bursitis and concomitant epidermal cyst in a 67-year-old man. The ulnar nerve was immediately adjacent to the olecranon bursa and was significantly compressed. There was no connection between the tumor and the ulnar nerve. Pain, numbness, and weakness in his ring and little fingers disappeared after resection

Saphenous nerve entrapment caused by pes anserine bursitis mimicking stress fracture of the tibia.

Numerous studies have addressed saphenous nerve entrapment at the level of the adductor canal. In this case, we report an entrapment syndrome located further distally occurring as part of an athletic overuse injury. Distal tibial pain, initially managed as a stress fracture, resolved when a pes anserine bursitis was treated. This was associated with return of saphenous nerve potentials along the tibia.

Endoscopic Olecranon Bursectomy in the Treatment of Recalcitrant Olecranon Bursitis: Patient Selection and Operative Technique.

Olecranon bursitis is the most common form of bursitis. While it can commonly be treated using noninvasive measures, a surgical approach is indicated for cases of recalcitrant olecranon bursitis, which fail such treatment options. Traditionally, recalcitrant olecranon bursitis has been treated with an open bursectomy. Recently, arthroscopy has been proposed as an alternative method. Contraindications for this approach are cases where the bursa is massively enlarged and contains copious amounts of gouty tophi. While a unanimous consensus regarding which surgical approach is optimal has yet to b

Contribution of pathogenic T helper 1 and 17 cells to bursitis and tenosynovitis in polymyalgia rheumatica.

BACKGROUND: Although polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is a very common rheumatic inflammatory disease, current insight into the pathobiology of PMR is limited and largely based on studies in blood. We investigated T helper 1 (TH1) and T helper 17 (TH17) cell responses in blood, synovial fluid and bursa tissue of patients with PMR. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Blood samples were collected from 18 patients with new-onset PMR and 32 healthy controls. Synovial fluid was aspirated from the inflamed shoulder bursae or biceps tendon sheath of 13 patients. Ultrasound-guided biopsies of the subacromial-subdelto

Prevalence study of iliopsoas bursitis in a cohort of 860 patients affected by symptomatic hip osteoarthritis.

We used ultrasound to evaluate iliopsoas bursitis (IB) prevalence in 860 patients (568 males, 292 females, 62 ± 7 years) suffering from symptomatic Kellgren-Lawrence grade II-III-IV hip osteoarthritis. Lequesne index and visual analogue scale (VAS) were recorded. Anterior hip was scanned and images recorded. Maximum IB diameter was measured and drained (volume recorded). Two radiologists evaluated the presence of IB, joint effusion, synovial hypertrophy, communication between bursa and articular space. IB was found in 19/860 (2.2%) patients (16 males, 3 females, 65 ± 11 years; grade II osteoar

Prepatellar bursitis due to Brucella abortus: case report and analysis of the local immune response.

A case of prepatellar bursitis in a man with chronic brucellosis is presented. Brucella abortus biotype 1 was isolated from the abundant yellowish fluid obtained from the bursa. Clinical and epidemiological data did not suggest a direct inoculation of the agent in the bursa. However, the patient mentioned occasional local trauma due to recreational sports, which may have constituted a predisposing factor. As determined by ELISA, there were higher levels of IgG against Brucella LPS and cytosolic proteins detected in the patient's bursal synovial fluid when compared with serum. Levels of proinfl
