The aim of this paper was to introduce and validate our high parietal paramedian approach for tumors in the trigone of the lateral ventricles. This study included nine tumors found in the trigone region and treated surgically in our institute. The approach of this method is described here. METHODS: Interventional case report with cytopathologic correlation.
RESULTS: A 76-year-old asymptomatic woman presented with 2 globular orange and amelanotic choroidal lesions in the right eye. A 14 year old girl presented with a 6 months' history of headache with vomiting, ataxia and cerebellar signs. CT and MRI revealed obstructive hydrocephalus secondary to a large fourth ventricular mass which enhanced markedly on contrast administration. Histopathology of the resected mass revealed papillary structures lined by cuboidal cells confirming choroid plexus papilloma.

The authors present their experiences with the microsurgical method of therapy of choroidal malignant melanoma. During the last two years 10 patients have been admitted to the hospital that had malignant melanoma of uvea, eight of them had choroidal melanoma. This is the first report of an amelanotic melanoma arising in the unpigmented choroid of a tyrosinase-positive oculocutaneous albino (TPOCA). Melanosomes within the tumour showed a maturation arrest in the unpigmented type II (premelanosome) phase. Other neural crest derived melanocytes in iris and choroid showed similar limited melanogenesis. The neuroectodermally derived melanocytes of the iris, ciliary body, and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) contained mature melanosomes, though clinically the RPE was pale. The significance of this tumour arising in an albinotic eye is discussed.
