BACKGROUND: The majority of primary, intraocular tumors in cats originate from the uvea and include feline diffuse iris melanoma, lymphoma, and iridociliary epithelial adenoma or adenocarcinoma. In this case report, we describe for the first time the clinical, histological, and immunohistochemical findings of a rare myxoid intraocular neoplasm arising from the ciliary body in a cat.

The forkhead C1 (FOXC1) transcription factor is involved in the development and regulation of several organs, including the eye, where FOXC1 alterations cause iris, trabecular meshwork and corneal anomalies. Using nickel agarose chromatin enrichment with human anterior segment cells, we previously identified the fibroblast growth factor 19 (FGF19) locus as a gene potentially regulated by FOXC1. Here, we demonstrate that FGF19 is a direct target of FOXC1 in the eye. FOXC1 positively regulates FGF19 expression in corneal and periocular mesenchymal cells in cell culture and in zebrafish embryos.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the advantages of ultrasound biomicroscope (UBM) used for the reattachment surgery of traumatic ciliary body detachment.
METHODS: 33 cases diagnosed by UBM as ciliary body detachment were studied. The surgical results of these cases were analyzed and compared with that of 83 cases which were simply diagnosed by a gonioscope.

Indoleamines are associated with circadian rhythms in pineal gland and retina. Because the ciliary epithelium has an embryonic origin similar to that of pineal gland and retina, and intraocular pressure shows circadian variations, indoleamines were searched for in aqueous humor and ciliary body in humans.
