INTRODUCTION: The Nottingham Clavicle Score (NCS) is a patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) that addresses injuries to the clavicle, acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) and sternoclavicular joint. The aim of this study was to translate and culturally adapt the original NCS to Danish, providing a basis for future validation and clinical use in Denmark.
METHODS: The translation process followed best-practice guidelines from the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research. It was conducted using the cross-cultural adaptation guidelines described by Beaton. Two independent tran…

Midshaft clavicle fractures are among the most common shoulder girdle injuries and have traditionally been managed conservatively. Over the past two decades, evidence comparing operative and non-operative approaches has expanded, and this systematic review aimed to evaluate functional outcomes, union rates, complications, and temporal trends in management between 2005 and 2025. A comprehensive literature search was performed across PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and Ovid MEDLINE for studies published during this period. Randomised controlled trials (RCTs), cohort…

BACKGROUND: Fractures of the clavicle are common injuries, which often require reduction and internal fixation. Although Kirschner pins have been commonly used to treat these fractures with good results, migration of these devices may result in severe internal lesions.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report herein the case of 61-year-old man, who presented for intrapulmonary migration of a Kirschner pin, 25 years after closed reduction and fixation of a clavicle fracture.
CONCLUSION: Migration of an osteosynthesis pin can be lethal. Patients with osteosynthesis pins, should have a regular follow, unti…

INTRODUCTION: Clavicle fractures are common and have historically been managed nonsurgically. Over time, there are increasing surgical considerations for such injuries. Nonetheless, trends over the past decade are not well characterized.
METHODS: Adult patients presenting for first diagnosis of clavicle fractures were identified from the 2010 to 2020 PearlDiver M151 database. Patients were defined to have undergone surgical management if they received clavicular open reduction and internal fixation within 90 days after fracture diagnosis. Patient age, sex, Elixhauser Comorbidity Index (ECI), …

RATIONALE: Florid reactive periostitis (FRP), a rare reactive bone lesion, typically presents in the short tubular bones of the extremities, with infrequent occurrences in the long tubular bones. This report discusses a unique case of FRP in the clavicle, managed through comprehensive lesion debridement and bone grafting, yielding positive results over a 3-year duration.
PATIENT CONCERN: A 25-year-old male presented with a discernible mass at the left sternal end of the clavicle, discovered incidentally 2 weeks prior. The patient exhibited no clinical signs of inflammation, pain, sinus tract,…

Nowadays, surgical intervention is an accepted treatment for congenital pseudoarthrosis of the clavicle (CPC). The purpose of this literature review is to evaluate the current body of evidence for methods and outcomes of surgical intervention for CPC. CPC is a rare deformity of the middle third of the clavicle not often identified until three to five years of age, at which time surgery is often recommended. The most common indication for surgery is cosmetic appearance, but other indications include pain, shoulder dysfunction, and prevention of complications later in life. Surgical intervention…

There are very few reports in the literature about clavicular fractures being associated with a pneumothorax. With this combination of injuries, there are also minimal reports of a delayed presentation of a pneumothorax. This is the first report of a delayed pneumothorax followed by a recurrence of a pneumothorax due to the fractured ends of the clavicle. This case report describes a 49-year-old man who sustained a right-sided pneumothorax from a fractured clavicle several hours after a bus accident. His initial chest examination and radiographs showed no evidence of a pneumothorax. The pneumo…

Clavicle fractures' treatment recommendations are based on displacement. The goal of this paper is to determine upright clavicle radiographs at initial presentation changes timing and method of treatment. Retrospective study in a level 1 trauma center. 356 patients with clavicle fractures were reviewed. Patients with only supine radiographs (Group 1, 285 patients) were compared to patients with supine and upright radiographs (Group 2, 71 patients). Higher proportion of fractures in the upright vs supine radiographs were displaced 100% or more of the clavicle width, (52.1% vs. 33.5%, p =0.004).…

BACKGROUND: Neer Type IIb lateral clavicle fractures typically lead to dislocation of the medial fragment. Therefore, most surgeons recommend surgical treatment for such a fracture pattern. The use of a locking compression plate with a lateral extension has produced satisfactory results in various studies over recent years. Double-plate fixation is a common technique in the treatment of complex distal radius fractures. The authors use this technique as a routine procedure in the treatment of Neer type IIb fractures. In this biomechanical testing study, the mechanical properties of the two tech…

AIMS: Clavicle fracture nonunions are extremely rare in children. The aim of this systematic review was to assess what factors may predispose children to form clavicle fracture nonunions and evaluate the treatment methods and outcomes.
METHODS: We performed a systematic review according to Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, aiming to find papers reporting clavicle fracture nonunion in children under the age of 18 years. Data was collected on patient demographics, fracture type, mechanism of injury (MOI), surgical intervention and reported outcome. T…

INTRODUCTION: Complex scapula with ipsilateral clavicle fracures remains a challange and treatment recommendations are still missing. This review provides an overview of the evolution of the definition, classification and treatment strategies for complex scapula and ipsilateral clavicle fractures. As with other rare conditions, consensus has not been reached on the most suitable management strategies to treat these patients. The aim of this review is twofold: to compile and summarize the currently available literature on this topic, and to recommend treatment approaches.

We investigated functional and radiological outcome in 57 cases of midshaft clavicle nonunion treated with open reduction and internal fixation with plate and screws over a 13 year-period. Intercalary bone graft was used in 42 patients; opposite autologous strut graft was used in 31 cases to provide mechanical support to the host bone. Patients were analysed using chart and radiological review and assessed with DASH questionnaire obtained at the latest follow-up. 37 patients were male while 20 were females, with a mean age of 35 years (63-17). All cases were of nonunion, 35 atrophic and 22 hyp…

Scapulothoracic dissociation involves varying degree of discontinuity of the upper extremity from its truncal attachment. An eighteen-year-old male presented to the accident and emergency department following a motor vehicle accident where he was hit by a four wheeler while riding a two wheeler. He had tenderness and deformity over the left clavicle and the left humerus. He was unable to perform active wrist and finger dorsiflexion. A CT subsequently revealed a grade 2 splenic laceration. The splenic laceration was treated conservatively. As his general condition improved, he was gradually wea…

The purpose is to present a very unusual case of the acromioclavicular joint inferior dislocation associated with the clavicle fracture. It concerns to a young patient who had a bike fall and had this type of pathology, had been operated and obtained excellent clinic result. The literature mentions many cases of subcoracoide dislocation, but there are only two subacromial similar to ours. The case is described, a literary revision is done and discussed and the treatment is discussed.

OBJECTIVE: Sometimes only skeletal remains are available for forensic identification. Therefore, sex determination using human skeletal remains is one of the most important components in forensic identification. Different levels of accuracy for sex determination using clavicle have been reported in various studies, and on the other hand, anthropometric dimensions of different bones are unique in each race and geographical region. This study was carried out to assess the accuracy of this bone for sex determination in Iranian population. Based on the results of this research, by using the anthro…
