Identification and Analysis of Potential Immune-Related Biomarkers in Endometriosis.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is an inflammatory gynecological disease leading to deep pelvic pain, dyspareunia, and infertility. The pathophysiology of endometriosis is complex and depends on a variety of biological processes and pathways. Therefore, there is an urgent need to identify reliable biomarkers for early detection and accurate diagnosis to predict clinical outcomes and aid in the early intervention of endometriosis. We screened transcription factor- (TF-) immune-related gene (IRG) regulatory networks as potential biomarkers to reveal new molecular subgroups for the early diagnosis of e

Evidence of Age Estimation Procedures in Forensic Dentistry: Results from an Umbrella Review.

Background and objective: Age estimation is an important tool when dealing with human remains or undocumented minors. Although the skull, the skeleton or the hand-wrist are used in age estimation as maturity indicators, they often present a lack of good conditions for a correct identification or estimation. Few systematic reviews (SRs) have been recently published; therefore, this umbrella review critically assesses their level of evidence and provides a general, comprehensive view. Materials and methods: Considering the review question "What is the current evidence on age determination approa

Common miRNAs of Osteoporosis and Fibromyalgia: A Review.

A significant clinical association between osteoporosis (OP) and fibromyalgia (FM) has been shown in the literature. Given the need for specific biomarkers to improve OP and FM management, common miRNAs might provide promising tracks for future prevention and treatment. The aim of this review is to identify miRNAs described in OP and FM, and dysregulated in the same direction in both pathologies. The PubMed database was searched until June 2023, with a clear mention of OP, FM, and miRNA expression. Clinical trials, case-control, and cross-sectional studies were included. Gray literature was no

Effect of glucocorticoids on the development of COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis: A meta-analysis of 21 studies and 5174 patients.

COVID-19-associated pulmonary aspergillosis (CAPA) remains a high mortality mycotic infection throughout the pandemic, and glucocorticoids (GC) may be its root cause. Our aim was to evaluate the effect of systemic GC treatment on the development of CAPA. We systematically searched the PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus and Embase databases to collect eligible studies published until 31 December 2022. The pooled outcome of CAPA development was calculated as the log odds ratio (LOR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) using a random effect model. A total of 21 studies with 5174 patients were included

A database of human predictive patch test data for skin sensitization.

Critical to the evaluation of non-animal tests are reference data with which to assess their relevance. Animal data are typically used because they are generally standardized and available. However, when regulatory agencies aim to protect human health, human reference data provide the benefit of not having to account for possible interspecies variability. To support the evaluation of non-animal approaches for skin sensitization assessment, we collected data from 2277 human predictive patch tests (HPPTs), i.e., human repeat insult patch tests and human maximization tests, for skin sensitization

Wearable Artificial Intelligence for Detecting Anxiety: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety disorders rank among the most prevalent mental disorders worldwide. Anxiety symptoms are typically evaluated using self-assessment surveys or interview-based assessment methods conducted by clinicians, which can be subjective, time-consuming, and challenging to repeat. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for using technologies capable of providing objective and early detection of anxiety. Wearable artificial intelligence (AI), the combination of AI technology and wearable devices, has been widely used to detect and predict anxiety disorders automatically, objectively,

Petri net transition times as training features for multiclass models to support the detection of neurodegenerative diseases.

This paper proposes the transition times of Petri net models of human gait as training features for multiclass random forests (RFs) and classification trees (CTs). These models are designed to support screening for neurodegenerative diseases. The proposed Petri net describes gait in terms of nine cyclic phases and the timing of the nine events that mark the transition between phases. Since the transition times between strides vary, each is represented as a random variable characterized by its mean and standard deviation. These transition times are calculated using the PhysioNet database of ver

[Comparison of Hungarian Central Statistical Office's causes of death data with the database of the Hungarian National Cancer Registry].

Introduction: In international comparison, Hungary is in the forefront of cancer incidence and mortality statistics. Based on paper-based death certificates, mortality statistics are compiled by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office, while population-based measures of cancer incidences are performed by the Hungarian National Cancer Registry. Objective: Linking the records of these two independent databases can highlight their weaknesses and provide an opportunity to reconcile and verify collected data, which may emphasize the need to expand current data exchange protocols. Method: Based on

Questionnaire and tools: clinical powerful instrument in acromegaly diagnosis and management.

PURPOSE: Acromegaly is a rare chronic disease characterized by systemic comorbidity and reduced quality of life. Although achieving biochemical control has always been the primary goal of acromegaly therapy, recent evidence has shown that the traditional assessment does not adequately capture the complexity of symptoms and patients' perception. These findings result in the need to improve a fast decision-making process of the clinician, who should not only take into account biochemical-instrumental criteria, but also patients' symptoms. With the aim of supporting the clinician in the diagnosti

DLMM as a lossless one-shot algorithm for collaborative multi-site distributed linear mixed models.

Linear mixed models are commonly used in healthcare-based association analyses for analyzing multi-site data with heterogeneous site-specific random effects. Due to regulations for protecting patients' privacy, sensitive individual patient data (IPD) typically cannot be shared across sites. We propose an algorithm for fitting distributed linear mixed models (DLMMs) without sharing IPD across sites. This algorithm achieves results identical to those achieved using pooled IPD from multiple sites (i.e., the same effect size and standard error estimates), hence demonstrating the lossless property.
