Combination syndrome: classification and case report.

Combination syndrome (CS) is a dental condition that is commonly seen in patients with a completely edentulous maxilla and partially edentulous mandible with preserved anterior teeth. This syndrome consists of severe anterior maxillary resorption combined with hypertrophic and atrophic changes in different quadrants of maxilla and mandible. This makes it a challenging condition in dentistry that requires significant experience along with advanced restorative and surgical skills. The causes of maxillary bone resorption and ways to correct it are discussed in this article. Conventional treatment

Treatment planning: implant-supported partial overdentures.

When multiple anterior teeth are missing, many options of replacement are available. Traditionally, the choice was between a fixed or removable prostheses. Today, with the predictability of dental implants, the options of tooth replacement range from removable partial dentures to implant-supported fixed prostheses. The choice of which restoration that will best provide occlusion and esthetics depends on multiple factors including the number and location of missing teeth, the residual ridge form in relation to the replacement teeth, the relationship of the maxillary and mandibular anterior teet

14 Years On: A Clinical Case Report of an 86-Year-Old Patient With Full Arch Implant-Supported Restorations With Auro Galvano Crown Attachments.

Oral reconstruction in fully edentulous patients can be challenging at times. Hence, it is important to offer the most suitable treatment option after a detailed clinical examination and treatment plan. This 14-year long-term follow-up report is the clinical case of a 71-year-old nonsmoker who visited the clinic in 2006 and opted for full-mouth reconstruction using Auro Galvano crown (AGC) attachments. Maintenance was performed twice a year for the past 14 years, and the clinical results were satisfactory, with no signs of inflammation or lack of retention of the superstructures. This was asso

Anterior crossbite correction in primary and mixed dentition with removable inclined plane (Bruckl appliance).

Anterior crossbite correction in early mixed dentition is highly recommended as this kind of malocclusion do not diminish with age. Uncorrected anterior crossbite may lead to abnormal wear of the lower incisors, dental compensation of mandibular incisors leading to thinning of labial alveolar plate and/or gingival recession. There are several methods for solving this problem. In this article we would like to describe removable inclined plane. This is a removable simple functional appliance on the lower arch (jaw), which works as inclined plane. One of the advantage of the Bruckl appliance is t

A longitudinal study of resin-bonded prostheses.

Resin-bonded fixed partial dentures, without definitive tooth preparation and current resinous cements and perceptive treatment, have had an inordinate number of dislodgments in initial restorative efforts. A longitudinal examination of resin-bonded prostheses was performed after a mean observation time exceeding 6 years. To prevent stress fatigue fractures of the cement bondings, one proximal groove was prepared in dentin for each anterior abutment and the inner surfaces of the frameworks were silicoated. Five of 34 prostheses debonded, and the bond strength between resin and high gold alloys

Implants and sinus-inlay graft in a 1-stage procedure in severely atrophied maxillae: prosthodontic aspects in a 3-year follow-up study.

The aim of this 3-year prospective study was to evaluate the prosthetic treatment in 2 groups of maxillary edentulous patients with similar age and gender distribution: a study group of 39 patients treated with intra-sinus block bone grafts and implants in a 1-stage procedure, and a control (reference) group of 37 patients treated with implants and no grafting. In the study group, bone volumes were regarded as insufficient for implant treatment unless a bone grafting procedure was performed (posterior alveolar bone height was less than 5 mm). Self-tapping Nobel Biocare implants were used in bo

In-vitro study of the wear behavior of telescopic crowns made of CoCr, zirconia or PEEK.

PURPOSE: Double-crown-retained dentures (DCRD) are an established treatment in dentistry. In some cases, the retention between primary crown (PC) and secondary crown (SC) loosens due to wear during daily handling of the denture. The aim of the present study was to examine modern materials for PCs and SCs with regard to their wear behavior. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cyclic pull-off tests were conducted on each 40 specimens in five test groups. PCs made of CoCr, PEEK and ZrO2 were cemented onto a prepared resin tooth. SCs were made of the same materials and combined to the following PC-SC combinat

A clinical evaluation of cobalt-chromium metal-ceramic fixed partial dentures and crowns: A three- to seven-year retrospective study.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: In severely compromised dentition, loading of long-span and cantilever metal-ceramic fixed partial dentures (FPDs) could result in framework deformation and porcelain fractures. The use of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloys may be advantageous, but there is little information on the longevity of, and complications with, prostheses made with these alloys. PURPOSE: The aim of this retrospective study was to report the survival and complication rates of Co-Cr metal-ceramic FPDs and crowns followed over a 3- to 7-year period. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study included 42 patients

Prosthetic Rehabilitation of a Post-mucormycosis Maxillectomy Defect Using a Maxillary Hollow Obturator and Complete Denture: A Case Report.

Mucormycosis is an opportunistic fungal infection that severely impacts immunocompromised patients. Invasive mucormycosis tends to require surgical procedures like maxillectomy, leading to a complex oro-nasal communication and a severe compromise of oral function, speech, and esthetics. The following case report describes the prosthetic rehabilitation of a patient after maxillectomy post-mucormycosis. A maxillary complete denture with a closed hollow bulb obturator was constructed to restore oral function, facilitate speech, and improve facial esthetics. The impression-making technique was met

Role of genetic polymorphisms in residual ridge resorption of mandible - A scoping review.

Residual ridge (RR) refers to the clinical alveolar ridge that remains after the bone and soft tissues have healed following tooth extraction. This ridge undergoes resorption, which is most rapid during the first six months of post-extraction. Subsequently, bone resorption continues at a slower pace throughout life, leading to significant loss of jaw structure over time. This process is commonly known as residual ridge resorption (RRR). RRR is a major factor contributing to the loss of stability and retention, especially in mandibular complete dentures. Severe resorption of the maxillary and m
